Dance Pad Adapter
« on: September 01, 2003, 05:03:00 PM »

Can I use any PS1/2 controller adapter for use in StepmaniaX in terms of playability and response from the keys and most importantly can I press 2 or more keys at the same time?

There are a number of threads on this, but to put it shortly, not just any adaptor works. I got an adaptor (Dreambox), and it works fine with my Dual Shock 2 controllers when the analog button is on, but it doesn't recognize the dance pads, or even older PS1 (non analog) controllers.
However, many people have gotten it to work with other adaptors. I believe the Stepmania website has a compatibility list that's pretty accurate.

Most adapters DON'T work for stepmania for some reason.
I suspect because the pcb's for the dance mats are created differently.

I have a "Total Control Innovation Connection" adapter that works with my pads.
They don't work on some 3rd party pads, but I can confirm that they work with Topway and Madcatz ones. You can easily get them off ebay for less then $10 each, nobody ever bids on them.
Search for:  "xbox playstation controller" and you should get tons of results. Shipping is cheap too, especially if you buy 2.
