I quess you never tried it. Cause the dianogstics menu doesn't work in Killer Instinct 1. It does in Killer Instinct 2 though.

Well I followed the Tutorial on here for converting a chd to and img file. All my crcs were the same as in the tutorial. Are you sure Diagnostic mode works for you in Killer Instinct 1?

Also where does the Diagnostic mode come from? The rom or the img file? (So I can redownload whichever one might be curropted.)

I have the exact same problem as you, it locks solid when trying to enter the diagnostic menu with either KI1 or 2 in my case.

I verified the roms with a ClrMame dat and the PC version works fine with them (All CRC's match the ones people say are needed).

Did you ever (Or anyone else!) solve this problem (I can't get to turn the sound up)?

A common problem is that the roms are the wrong versions yet renamed to make it semi-work. Had same problem get a new copy. As far as real in game bugs... after beating the game the end credits makes KI lock up. Jago ending all screwed very dark might be a contrast problem yet DJ Combo one is happy...odd. I think I posted this before but the DJ Combo fatality locks up game too. None game play issues    (ps game doesn't lock up on me when people recover from danger, and the diagnostics work fine people just have bad roms I think)

Make sure some lame @$$ release group hasn't messed up the file names in the Media folder, and delete both the 64646464 folder from UDATA and TDATA if you have had problems and want to start afresh...
