The Next Big Thing.....
« on: August 16, 2003, 11:02:00 PM »

Well the title sure is catchy but this is really just a question. Every so often there are a few break throughs in emulation on the xbox. What are your ideas for the next big heated debate and whirlwind that is emu related. KI dosnt count because its allready known about and probably on the verge of a release im thinking off stuff down the road a month or so.

Possibly n64 or mame gets as good as it gets with working VM. I do think this is further of than we think but it is infact there. Maybe sources get released to some up and comming emulators that we are all killing for possibly a leaked girgi *saturn*  (yeah i said it, and dont care because the words "comerical" and "emulation" DONT belong in the same sentance). Or maybe the 3d0 guys get really cracking and put up hella work on freedo and port it to the xbox. I doubt trip hawkins would really give a rats ass about 3do now.... now that i think about this whole idea dont be supprised if freedo becomes open source as trip hawkings has no say so now. Unless freedo team really wants to hoard afterall like i mentioned a while back.

If none of that happens I could see cxbx and xeon merging and possibly getting a few xbox games to play at around 10 or 15 fps by january id imagine. That would be a very cool break through. Every once in a while i think about shit like this and these forums are a great place to vent so add in to the discission and make it a fun one. What else could turn out to be big.... Im sure everyone would be pleased of a  mxm and xport team up..... I know xport was thinking about making a front end when all his porting is said and done or at a long stand still. Boy it sure would rock if xports emus were easily impemented into MXM. It would probably cut xports front end work load down a ass load and keep everyone pleased at the same time. I also have not 1 doubt in my mind that jermey wouldnt mind helping out.

Maybe now that icarus is getting back in action he might smarten up and release his source to a world of hugry coders and out of the depths of 3 hard drives. I could easily see icarus running a handfull of games at a good speed on the xbox.... only if it was being worked on period, let alone by a legion of coders. With all that said I could see a xbox port a month later. I mean how cool would it be to even play jjust one dreamcast game such as sonic 1 on your xbox. I swear I would be like a little fucking kid man. Once again just food for thought.

Possibly we could get a version of linux running on the xbox at a better speed as well with the help of newfound milestones. It would rock even more with better compatability and more free memory. All I know is in the comming months something big is gonna hit like it does every so often and its fun guessing what it is. As of late im in the dark on everything but I almost like it better. Anyway a simple question turned out to be a few hundred words. Who cares though..... the question is what do you think, and or would like to see come to/change about the xbox. (whata mouthfull) This could be fun.

That's like saying, "which stock is going to go up the most this week."  I wish I knew.  You're right though...seems like there's a new breakthrough all the time.  Personally, I'd think not only would a Sega Saturn emulator be fantastic for the Xbox community, it would also be a pretty good feat as it's nasty hardware, and a lot of people say it'll never happen.  Definitely my favorite system.

I doubt it's done.  Now that Kawa-X proved the long-running virtual memory debate, there's room for improvement on MameOX and all the N64 emus.  Whether the developers even go this route is up to them, and to be honest... the emus are fantastic even without it.

I've yet to try a PSX emu... I've got a PS2, and play my few PSX games on it.
Also - your English is okay.... better than some native speakers that post here. smile.gif

Sega Saturn emulation would be THESHIT.  I cant tell you how great it would be to play panzer dragoon saga on my xbox(drools all over self leading to wierd and embarassing questions about wet crotch).  It is a ways off ill admit but it will be a grand grand day when i can back up my saturn games on my xbox and not have to worry about getting my hit or miss memory card to work.  Now if someone would just make an adapter to use the saturn pad on xbox for fighters...(drooling again)

personally speaking - i think the xbox emulation scene is just as exciting as it was this time last year.

some of the newer consoles (jaguar, saturn, dreamcast etc), wont be feasible on the xbox unless they get some form of dynamic recompiler core.

A reply to GaijinPunch, in the latest version of MAMEoX, the virtual memory is in there, but has not yet been implemented.

I just now see that the SSF site is down. sad.gif
Damn I wish someone could write a decent open source Saturn one.  As it's been stated before  -- emulation and commercial don't belong in the same sentence.

shiZ my brothers friends and family all seem to like n64 allot of my friends are fighting game fans so we play psx allot!

lol plz dont hate me but i dont realy care for saturn emulation i remember my uncle allways tried to make me trade my psx for that thing I could only play it for a day BUT i didnt get to try all the games and im an old sonic fan only tried the sega version

hopefully the next best thing to be out is probably going to be great direct x and opengl support for linux so we dont need as much porting and if i am lucky maybe a bios or something that allows you to use your xbox as a computer either one is GREAT!

A lot of people seem eager for a Saturn emu. My question is why?

Guardian Heroes, for starters. If you haven't played that, you're missing out so badly. After that, there's Fighting Vipers, Die Hard Arcade, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Fighters Megamix, Sonic Fighters, Virtual On, The Virtual Cop series, Burning Rangers, Sonic Jam (we can emulate the otehr games in it already, but there are a lot of cool extras you won't even find the the newer GC Sonic Collection)... I can actually keep going. The Saturn was way underrated, mainly because it was lacking heavily in the 3D Department. The controller is still the best for Capcom fighters (if you like using a Dpad,) and if the emulation works correctly, Street Fighter Alpha 3 kicks raw ass on it, as it has all the characters the PSX one did, as well as the 2-on-1 option with any characters you want.

I was a total PSX fanboy back in the actual days of the Saturn, but I learned the error of my ways...

I agree with ZASADAR, one of the "next big thing" (one we can expect that is, not something that fall from the sky without warning - like Kawa-X  love.gif) is using linux mainly for emulation.

There's a lot of room for improvement regarding linux on xbox, and when some of that work will be done, i think emulation on linux will be a good "alternative" solution.

I may be wrong, but at the moment, it doesn't seem like a lot of people are playing emu on their box through linux, right ?

Authors getting reimbursement for their hard work?! GASP!

The commercial saturn team have accomplished alot more than anyone else, and obviously invested a lot of time in it -
why shouldn't they charge for it?

Sega didn't develop GiriGiri.
IMO, Sega Saturn was the only good Sega Console released. I never liked DreamCast, and Sega Genesis only had a couple good games. The other ones I never even really cared to look at.

i agree.  That is a dumb statement to say its slowing down.  The fact that the scene was slowing down was uttered about 3 months ago by a bunch of newbs who just werent getting enough free shit.  Then we found out that a guy named Voltaic was going to start MS dash modding, then nexgen is dropped, then picked up again (thank God), then Xport comes out with a new emulator a day (or fix, which are about as good as a brand new emu), then we have a great contest that prods the N64 emu development, then a guy proves that N64 can and WILL be emulated on xbox, then Xecuter sports one of their cases in development, then this guy releases Kawa-X and uses VM to get games running that never worked with Mame-S, Now we find out that some other dev behind the scenes has begun a new xbox emu for pc that even Caustik applauds, then Xecuter releases a bios that totally disables the eject function, then Lantus tells us that he is on the verge of releasing a Killer Instinct emulator (!), we have a hella lot of deals goin on in the buy/sell forum that were almost non-existent about 2 months ago.  Bla, Bla, Bla.....the scene is very much alive and whoever doesnt think so isnt looking past his ass!

I would like to see some more Homebrew Original games.  That was great for Dreamcast.
