Hard Drive As A Memory Card?

Could an external hard drive be hooked up to a USB slot on the xbox?  Then have the xbox recognize it as a giant memory card?  You could possibly run movies (via xbmp or xbmc) or just transfer files between xboxs.  I'm sure there are other things you could do.  I just thought it might be interesting to see.

depending on the chip, and version of the xbox, like mine... i can not.
