hosh - Yes, when the game asks you to save, it saves it to the Sega CD backup RAM just like on a real Sega CD system.  Just be sure to exit back to the game selection screen before turning off your XBox. SOP.

baturkin - No, save states for Sonic CD do not work on the PC version.  It just *seems* like it works....  If you read the official Gens documentation for the Windows version, you'll see that it clearly states that save states for Sega-CDs do not work.

blotto - Your current ISO, MP3s should work fine.  How are they "not working"  What is the naming convention you are using?  Are you running them across a network?

Yes, I know what you wrote, but there is no apparent reason why the game should not load the ISO/MP3 files.  If you're not interested in getting your ISO/MP3 files working, then fine.  If you are, then tell me what exactly you are doing and what exactly happens when you do it.  Furthermore, are you running across a network?  If you are playing them across a Relax share, then you'll have to wait about 30 seconds because of the way Gens searches for file names.

Is the BIOS directory correctly in place and are the bios files all in there?

If your neogenesis default.xbe is in, for example,

E:\GAMES\NEOGENESIS\DEFAULT.XBE

then you should have a directory called

E:\GAMES\NEOGENESIS\BIOS

and in that directory there should be a handful of bios files.

Have you also checked to make sure that regular ROM images are playing?

That problem that people mentioned with sound playing too fast in games like Aladdin and Sonic CD is fixed.  This is the result of people running euro/PAL games on an NTSC XBox.  (Or running PAL 50hz SGEN games on a PAL XBox running in PAL60 mode.)

If you don't want to wait for the fix to be released, you can do the following.  If you are experiencing the "fast sound" and you have an NTSC XBox, then get the USA/NTSC version of the game you are trying to play.  If you have a PAL XBox, then put it in PAL50 mode instead of PAL60.

It hangs on what screen, exactly?  The NeoGenesis "loading" screen or one of the Sega CD "loading" screens?

If it's hanging on the NeoGenesis screen, are you still able to do an in-game-reset or do you have to physically reboot your xbox?

it really sounds like the bios. maybe you should specify where they are in relationship with the .xbe

I end up at the sega cd default menu, I can then load a game from there.

I don't understand what you mean by this.  Do you mean you press "start" at the SegaCD logo screen?  When you select the CUE or ISO file of the CD game to play, it should first bring up the NeoGenesis loading screen.  Then it should display the SegaCD logo screen from which you can press Start and it will then show the Sega logo with Sonic.  Then it will progress to the game.  Are you saying that from the time you see the NeoGenesis loading screen to the time you see the SegaCD logo screen, it takes *literally* 5-10 minutes?  If so, are you sure you're not trying to load this from a network share?

So the other game you tried did play?  Or you just got another kind of menu and nothing else?

BTW - what are the names of these games?

Have you also tried toggling the CD-method (Perfect Synchro/Normal) on the configuration screen for each of these games?

are you one of those guys that has 3 billion roms in your directory? if that's the case, it may take forever for the emu to find all of the mp3's that need to follow the iso. try putting the iso of your sega cd in its' own folder with its' respective mp3's.

/genroms/SONIC CD/sonic.iso
/genroms/SONIC CD/sonic02.mp3

etc. this'll shorten loading time by days. if that's the case...

re - save states in CDs.  All of what Carcharius said is true.  Backup RAM is functional which was the "normal" way that real Sega CD systems saved games.  You'll have to use that.

Ok........sorry for my incompitance, but how do i do that; how do i use the segacd back up RAM on my xbox? huh.gif

koitsu - thanks.

foehammer - You don't need to worry about it- it's all handled internally.  (Just exit back to the game-select menu when you're done playing.)

The XBE was already XBEPatch-ed.

Hmm.. Wonder why dexbe is reporting it as "debug" then... Probably a bug in dexbe. (wouldn't surprise me).

The weird thing is that the xbe's for fceux and xboyadvance show correctly. (usually xbe's from the same developer are consistent...) Like I said, must be dexbe! Is there any other tool you can use to just "check" the retail/debug status?
