I really want to know if you guys can make the emulator lock up, or if you see problems with sound that have plagued the last couple releases.  If you hear of any, let me know.

I noticed in the previous release that in MK3 or Ultimate, when doing combos, it would lag a bit.  Is it still present in this version?  BTW great work.  Its awesome.

there is improved autoframerate in this release and the sound should not lag nearly as bad.  Give it a try and let me know how it works for you, I never played the arcade cabinet that much so I'm not entirely sure what is normal for the game.

If you guys suspect there is some sort of problem, it would really help us out if you could check it out in the latest version of mame32, and also if you could check to see if the bug is not already reported at www.mametesters.com.  Some of these problems are in all versions of mame, not just mameox.

VSYNC is something different in it's entirety though sad.gif

This is release is EXCELLENT, from my tests. I used it for a few hours tonight and it performed beautifully. I LOVE the new UI menus; much easier and fewer key combos to remember. Every game I tried worked great and the sound was good (no breakup).

One minor complaint (very minor): V-Sync issues still exist. At least on my system. I have an NTSC Progressive scan system and on scrolling games, the graphical glitches show up quite a bit. Zaxxon, Scramble, Super Cobra, etc...

Everything else is great. Damn, is this a nice emulator! cool.gif

Many thanks to everyone involved for all their hard work.

Jeneral

noted, thanks for the confirmation.  It's hard for Erik to see vsync problems because he uses a tv card on his pc when he's working on his xbox.  I reported still seeing tearing but with the sound debugging and other things it just took a back seat to other work.  To me it seemed like it was better than before, but still there.

I'm sure he'll figure it out. smile.gif

Just out of curiousity, will games like Metal Slug 3, Last Blade, Garou: Mark of the Wolves ever work? I know 1 extra meg of ram wont do the trick but is there hope?

So hiscores should be saved automatically? Maybe this is a new bug then ... I haven't been able to find a single game that saves hiscores. I just played a game of Ms Pac Man in order to test, and it didn't save the score. I exited the rom using back+start, and then reloaded. Am I doing something wrong? Or is it simply that Ms Pac Man doesn't save hiscores. Just wondering, thanks.

I have a couple of questions, and then I'm heading to bed, remind me and I'll try to answer your question once I see your responses tomorrow:

are you playing from dvdr / cdrw or your harddrive?  If you're running from dvdr / cdrw your highscores.dat should be in TDATA / 4d414d45 on your E drive.

did you make sure to lose all lives / choose not to continue, and then exit the rom?

with a lot of these problems, I can't reproduce them (because I don't encounter them smile.gif ).  I don't mean to sound like I do not believe you, but I haven't tried out high scores in the new version, I'm too busy trying to find roms that lock up the emulator.

I can't remember which games require hiscores.dat and which ones don't.  Please download it and put it in the appropriate HIGHSCORES directory.  You can find it at www.mame.net.

Thanks for the help. I run everything off of an Emulators folder on F, and have updated the mameox.ini file on E to reflect that. Haven't tried the mame.net file ... will do so now. Thanks.

Tried the file from mame.net ... worked perfectly. Thanks a lot for the help.

Maybe the hiscores.dat file could be included in future releases ... or at least some instructions/links to it for those of us not that familiar with mame.

With further testing it seems pretty clear that there's a problem with vsync ... really great release even with that minor problem.

ok now this can replace the old mame-x
I must admit i never gave this a chance cause i was always testing nba jam (a game which has sound issues on the old mame-x) but I see it's bloody nice!

games i've had probs with-
Arkanoid returns (runs fine but analogue stick and d-pad don't work)
NBA JAM/T.E. (sound issues, choppy)

about to test a heap more

Galaga (works great, but no sound when ship blows up)
Pole Position (works okay when you cal the gas but no sound when car   blows up)
Donkey Kong (no jump or running sound)
Mario Bros. (no jump or running sound)

Most of the sound issues you mention are not problems with the emulator, but rather, you are missing the SAMPLES for those games.  I'm too lazy, but just do a Google search for MAME samples and put 'em in your SAMPLES directory.

P.S. WAY TO GO MAMEoX TEAM!  I was a big MAME-X supporter, but with all the MAMEoX advances (especially sound and stability), I've finally made the switch.  beerchug.gif

It is almost too hard to keep up with Mame and rom development these days.  Has anyone had problems running Star Wars?

Thanks to the person that did find the hang bug in Operation Wolf - that's the first game I've found that's actually locked up.

Area 51 - is game requires hard drive files and a CHD file - were things set up properly for this game?  Please double check.

Ok, because I promised, here are a list of games that do not run in MAMEoX:

Lockups
-----------
Operation Wolf (locks up) (fixed in CVS build now)
Lethal Enforcers (locks up)

Out of Memory
-------------------
Vasara
Vasara2
Quiz de Idol Hot Debut
Metal Slug 3
Metal Slug X
Mars Matrix Hyper Solid Shooting
Lode Runner - The Dig Fight
Armed Police Batrider
Gals Panic 4
Gals Panic S
Gals Panic S2
Violent Storm
Primal Rage
Guwange
Gunbird 2
Ground Effects
Real Bout Fatal Fury Special (loads if sound is disabled)
Sengoku 3
Sengeki Striker
Run And Gun
Dragonball Z
Dragonball Z 2
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Vampire Savior
X-Men Children of the Atom
Street Fighter (yes, 1, not 2)
King of Fighters 97/98/99/2000/2001
Last Blade 1/2
ESP Ra.de
Sexy Parodius
Marvel Super Heroes

Playability issues
-----------------------
Stun Runner (sound issues, choppy)
NBA Jam (sound issues, choppy)
NBA Jam TE (sound issues, choppy)

Keep em coming guys.  The hangs are the big ones, and I haven't been able to find any so far except for the ones you've posted.

Once I've got a more complete list I'll work on an xml file that you can put in your GENERAL directory that will indicate status of roms (so you'll know to keep away, and we'll know where to focus our effort).

Vector games were fixed in the last release.  There was a small bug where they were forced into 32 bit display mode and they didn't like that very much smile.gif  I think all vector games play fine now, but I'll check on Star Wars for you.

...Well, I just blew up the death star, as far as I can tell, it works fine for me smile.gif

It seems to play much better for UMK3 or MK3.  I've played the cabinet and it seems much better.  Thanks guys.
