smile.gif Id like to know though, overall so far that you guys have seen.. how does it run most games compared to mame-x? neo geo games run pretty decent on mame-x, do they run the exact same on mameox or worse or better or what? does it support as many games as mamex? more? less?  smile.gif

MameOX supports way more games than Mame-X because it uses the Windows Mame version 0.70 core. MAme-X uses version 0.61.

But for now Mame-X still runs better Neo Geo and other games in terms of speed at least.

But Mameox runs Bomb Jack so i don't care lol. Anyway, next version seems to be getting more speed, lets see what happens.

grr.gif  The new mameox doesnt have as good of speed on all games in general? ahhhh! dammit. when is the new version being released, has the author said so already?

**oh shite i somehow completely missed the post about 70.3b being released at the end of the week, increased speed and compatibility and maybe lightgun support? OMG! This is too good to be true smile.gif Does mameox give you the option to load/unload the cps/neogeo drivers like mame-x does? If not, maybe that would help give it a liiiittle more space to run games like metalslugx and primal rage... but make it so you can UNload the cps/neogeo drivers also so all the other games get a small boost of memory too...

Please read my last post in this thread.  There are a lot of speed optimizations in progress, and a new build with possible lightgun support going in as early as next week Monday.

I personally see no problem with the current build with neogeo games, just make sure you set your colordepth to 15 instead of 32 to get around some errors that some neogeo games emit.  There is no point in getting angry - if you would have just installed the current build and tested out some neogeo games you would find that most of them work very well.  The only issue I can think of is changing the default color depth, and that is easy to do (and you probably won't know the difference).

If you want to help the authors out, make a list of games that run choppy now, also, submit as bugs games that do not work.  Opcode is putting a lot of _speed_ (not memory) optimizations in at the moment and it will help to know what games should be retested after they go in so improvements can be noted.  Impatience irritates developers more than anything - especially when they give so freely of their own time to work on things they distribute gratis.

At the moment, I know that Narc and some other games are choppy when sound is enabled.  If you have other specific games that exhibit choppy behavior, please let me or one of the other MameoX testers know.  I'm willing to bet you'll be very pleased this time next week with MameoX.

MameoX already does this.  You don't need to load / unload the cps1/2 and neogeo drivers, it's done automatically.  MameoX only loads the drivers it needs to run the rom you've selected.  While the process is not perfect, it works well.  It was one of the main fixes in this release.

MameX in normal mode gave you about 44 MB free, in CPS/neogeo mode you got about 54 MB, according to the readme that comes with the B6 binary of MameX.  MameoX gives you roughly 50 MB before it starts loading up drivers and the rom you've selected.  That's 6 MB more than you got with MameX, and a shade under what you got in neogeo / cps1/2 only mode.  Not to mention the fact that you're running the .70 core, which supports many more romsets than .61.

I wish i had more time to test, for now things are getting really great, most of the games load at least and most of them have some issues that can be resolved, at least in my opinion, with some effort and testing by us to report them.

Probably next version will be like Mame-X in terms of speed, but with the difference with more games supported and some bugs resolved and new features. Just a feeling o_0

None of the Mortal Kombat games run in the latest MAMEoX. MK1 and MK2 freeze on startup, and MK3/UMK3 still don't even start (even though they both should now). Where is there a CVS verstion of MAMEoX?

I'm very new to all this, so bare with me.

I've got Mame-X .61 on my Xbox pre-installed - and I'm really getting to grips with all the great arcade games I remember as a kid.

I've just got one question... Is it possible for me to put Mameox on my hard-drive and share the same roms as in the Mame-X folder, or do I have to duplicate all the games?

I believe the original poster meant CVS which technically means Concurrent Versions System but casually means interim releases between the major releases. XBMP is a good example of this where there are CVS releases between versions 2.3, 2.4 and so on.

I was talking about Concurrent Version System, not to start anything, but I'm not a f*cking moron (been using the PC MAME for about 4 years). The author mentions CVS in the newest readme, but I haven't seen anything else about it. I figured MK3 should run since after loading the ROMs, you still have about 16MB free RAM. Ah well, I'll keep waiting.
