Using comercial influence to rate games is ridiculous? I agree. All that game had going for it was comercial influence.

I have actually sold a few xboxs to people simply for the reason it plays divx, one guy emailed me last week to see if the machine i sold him could actually play backup games, he thought it was an added bonus!

Your only hyped about your cube because it is a new system, it get dry soon enough. Nintendo has no fucking games coming out this year except for maio kart which already is shaping up to look like shit. Star Fox, the hud was disgusting and the death match was bland. Anyway Nintendo will soon go the way of the greatest a mightiest of them all...SEGA. And it will go multiplatform. Then sony after years of using cheap parts to make their consoles, will be crippled, and xbox will reign supreme. Then sony will leave the videogame industry to persue other things. The M$ monopoly case will finally be settled, and Atari will come back yet again to start the next cycle...

Atari is not coming back to make hardware as the only thing left of them is the name, and it is just used by a software publisher.

M$'s is biggest enemy in the gaming market is them selves. They are going to continue to try and strong arm their way in to the market, which is going to continue to alienate developers and publishers alike (like EA, for example). M$ seems to think that flooding the market with the XBOX at a loss is going to make the XBOX2 sell better. Gamers are finicky. We will turn on something quick for little reason. Look at how Atari lost to Nintendo in one system. Nintendo lost to Sony in one system. It only takes one system to make or brake a console manufacter. MS seems to think that they can take over the market then do what ever they want. Nintendo had that aditude at one time. All it did was make developers jump to other, newer platforms. Luckily, Nintendo was learned some things from their past, or they would be finished by now.

Sony doesn't make "cheap hardware" The earlier PS2 had a design flaw that caused some of them to stop reading DVDs after a while. But it's not like I haven't heard of Xbox's harddrive's failing or power supplies going out. Sony has the best game selection out there out off all three systems. The only thing that they have going agenst them is that the PS2 is getting old and the games do not look as good as the newer systems. But you have to remember Graphics != Good Games

The only think you said that I agree with, is that I DO think that if nintendo does not retake the market with their next system in 2005, then they will go the way of Sega.

Uhm check out BBC sometime they reported on sony's use of cheap parts to manufacture the ps2. They use cheap parts because they know people will buy a ps2 no matter what. Sony even stated that their consoles were only made to last until the warranty expired. And yes I've had 2 systems die on my after the warranty. My v2 laser died, v4 laser also died.

And what have you been doing to it? Throwing it out a window? I've had my PS2 since 2000 and it's doing just fine. Take care of your stuff and you'll find it lasts a lot longer.

Show me were sony has said that they design the systems to only last as long as the warranty.

I am sure that it happened like this at the SCE development lab:

Gai Yamada: "I have gotten the laser unit to fail at 120 days sir"

Touji Wantabe: "Not good enough. We have to get it to fail at 90 days, or we won't be making hardware that will seal our doom as a console manufacter effectivily enough"

BTW: your BBC link is timing out for me, but I can only assume that that it is some list of consumer complants about failing PS2. Just do a search fo Xbox Dirty Disc Error and you should find the same thing with M$. I don't think Thompson was choosen for the DVD drive becuase they are know for making great hardware. I don't think that the PS2 is built any cheaper* than any other console out there including the Xbox.

*cheaper meaning with low quality parts.

The reason why the gc isn't the number 2 (or 1) console is the bad image: It's kiddie (playability means kiddy to a lot of people

), but it is a really great console.

Mech- I'm not hyped because the gamecube is new to me. It's just that playing some of these games really reminds me why
I like playing games. This is not an Xbox is better then Gamecube thread. I also never said Xbox didn't have fun games, just
not too many. I have gotten into SO many different Xbox games only to get bored and quit playing them. Fatal Frame, Indiana Jones, Hulk (Looks nice, but the game sux let's face it), Splinter Cell and yes, EVEN Halo!!! The ONLY game that
really turned me on enough to really finish was Medal of Honor:Frontline. THAT was a really fun game for me. I am also luvin
Burnout 2. Not to say there are a lot of crappy games for the Xbox, because there are quite a few good games.
