Should Xport Respect the GPL?

QUOTE (jse @ May 12 2003, 06:22 PM)
oh yeah and pin this topic

I'm leaving the lame, offensive poll in the garbage.

Had this discussion gone the way your original post had intended, I would have locked it or deleted it long, long ago.  Thanks to Cyrus for steering it in a different direction.

Also, if this topic is to be pinned a couple things need to happen.  There needs to be some innovation (rather than complaining, justified or not), and your posts in the thread need to be deleted.  I see them taking up space and that's about it.  "m00"?  Thanks for that.  And the abundant emoticons also incited no chin-rubbing.

Yeah, flame me. It's a sad day when most of you have to outright insult one of the few understanding adults on the forums, instead of listening a little bit.

I agree COMPLETELY with you Large Dopant white.   When I get good enough at programming to release something worth while,  I will be severly pissed off if someone rips off my source code like these people have.  I did not know about people not giving props to the original authors, the only two I have used are MAMEX for Metal Slug 1 and 2, and xSNES9x.  I never really check credits, but I would still feel better to know they ARE getting credit.

I have decided to never release my source code except to trusted and proven people after I make it, unless it falls under a specific lisence like GPL.  I know there is no way to legally release it, but I don't really care about using the XDK to compile it.  Anyway, I am not really interested in porting anything to Xbox, but am more likely to work on GBA and Gp32, and newer handhelds (Helix, N-gage).  I still love Xbox, but now I can't really think of anything that needs to be ported...maybe a saturn emulator, but I still have a saturn and I never thought it was that good anyway.

we don't have a legal dev kit (nor an intention to make one)

Far as I remember reading there were/are people working on one.

Yup here's the link right off of the good ole front page...   OpenXDK
d

I'm well aware of the OpenXDK project. Problem is, in almost a year, the best their meger contributions have yielded was a tech demo that does software rendering. Now, if this doesn't show intense disinterest, I don't know what does.
I'm sorry, but I have a real hard time believing a system with mostly 'off-the-shelf' computer parts with a little encryption is harder to develop a legal SDK with than, say, the PS2 or DC, which have esoteric parts with little documentation.

It is rare when I see such a contrast of good posts and shit poor posts.  You all know which kind yours are.

To all those with the shit poor posts, if you can contribute, everyone would appreciate it.  If you can't (and you know) it, lay off those who are trying to contribute.  Your incontribution waives your right to bitch about the work they do.

I'm sorry Cyrus.  People like you make me ashamed to be like I am.  I can only gain solace in one thing.  I actually buy the things I really like.  I own the Rancid Cds.  I own the Smashing Pumpkins Cds.  I own Skies of Arcadia, and House of the Dead 2.  I buy as many RPGs as I can find for SNES.  But I still have over...I'd rather not say the number, but I have some DC isos.  I have about 100 less PSX games, but only because I have been collecting for only a month.

Let me just say one thing.  When ever I play DC games, it won't be with an emulator, if one is ever released.  It will be with one of my most precious posessions, my Dreamcast.
