Pcsxbox V1 Released
« Reply #165 on: May 13, 2003, 07:50:00 AM »

hummm... I got the PCSX last night and will try a CDRW with TRaider3 later this afternoon. I can't access the official site though (www.pcsx.net) and I have some questions:

Can I execute pcsx directly from the CD/DVD (as default.xbe) and put the .bin+.cue files next to it (hint-hint---->or in that folder "GAMES")?

If yes, does it automatically jump to the next CD image if it's a multi-cd game?

I remember back in the days of Bleem!, PSgraphics were rendered a better and faster on a G3 Mac. Is that also the case with pscx?

Do I need the plugin files I saw last night (but didn't download - bummer) in pcsx.net, to run it?

Could anyone please answer these questions with a Yes or No? Thanks in advance.

I just hope THEY didn't shut the official site down...

Oh, and Xport:
You Da Man!

Great work Xport, hope you're still reading among this mess, because i couldn't find your mail and have a great idea for you here:

I think you should implement a system which will make the otimal settings for each specific game. These settings will be taken from what the testers say is the best setting for each game.

That way one don't have to test every single setting, but you can just start the game with the pre-set optimal settings. I also think you should make a very simple program(for windows) which the testers can use, so you can gather all the information from the testers in a database, which will be a file that one can separately download.

So let's say i'm a game-tester and want to use your "TESTERS-PROGRAM" to give the best settings for ex. "PAL - Wipeout 2097" i use your (future) program that will have these small "on/off-boxes"(don't know what they're called) with every single settings-option you've got in Pcsxbox, like "frameskip - on/off". When i'm done i send this file which will be inserted in the database-file. So if someone else have this game and will run it on pcsxbox, they have to name the file to whatever i want it to be associated with, like in this case "palwipeout2097.bin", and if pcsxbox finds a file called that it will run the specific settings it's been configured with.

To find out what you'll have to call it one open "database.ini"(or whatever you'd call it) and search for Pal wipeout, and there it says that it must be called "palwipeout2097.bin" to work. I hope you've understood what i mean, otherwhise just mail me, 'cause i think it's great ideas to a very great emulator. If X-port doesn't read this i hope the rest of you will start chatting about it, so it finally will come through to X-port.

Best regards / Grönne

Just delete drive and path from the cue, so only TEST.BIN is in there.

OK I've been using CDRWin to back up my PSX games into bin and cue files. Only problem is some games, like MK Trilogy, use the disc to grab the music (ie: you can put MK Trilogy into your CD player and listen to it) but CDRWIN won't copy this information over no matter how hard I try. Can anyone enlighten me on how to do so?

Also, does anyone think we will have graphic filters for this thing? No disrespect, but the guy who ports all these systems never puts in cool visual options such as sharper graphics like the SNES guys do. Just wondering if I can look forward to this thing visually looking like a PSX exactly.

Thanks...

i dont think the graphics can improve that much untill someone figures out how to make a graphics plugin that uses the gpu. then it could look even better than a real psx. this wont happen unless theres a legal sdk.

I was just saying basically because the NES and Genesis ports this guy has done have been less than great. No disrespect to him at all, but they all have really poor GUI's as well as poor image quality when compared to Nester-X and XSNES9X, so I figured it had nothing to do with the PSX.

PS: When using CDRWin, you don't need the .cue file it creates, just the .bin file.
Also don't use CDRWin 5, use the older versions like 3.8.

The sound in Pcsxbox seems to be too low in volumn on many games. Maybe the next ver will get better sound.
