Can somebody help me I am trying to get Metal Slug to run on my xbox, but I keep getting missing files. This is also happening to part 2.

So I was wandering what is the size of a working rom (zipped, of course), the one I have is 12.5Mb. Any help would be appreciated.

Try adding the newo-Geo BIOS files int eh t metalslug ROM directory
that's what I did, and it's runnin' nicely now.

Hey guys, I did what you suggessted I got the BIOS from neogeo.zip and there were no more missing files. Now there is another problem. It says:

ng-lo.rom WRONG LENGHT (expected 00010000 found 0

WARNING: the game might not run correctly

After this a screen pops up saying that to play the game press ok or esc. I press A and nothing happens.

Is this a old BIOS? Or am I doing something wrong?

I searches and I found the right BIOS now I don;t get that missing files error, but...

Now the roms wont load, I get the press ok screen, then the screen that says press any key. I do that and it seems to freeze up on me.

I already foolowed the faq that came with the zip and still no luck if anyone has had this happen to them, or just have any suggesstions please let me know.

Any help would be appreciated.

YOu have to use BLUE MAME instead the green one! The blue one is optimized for larger games such as Metal Slug 2 etc.

just press B button after green MAME loads up

Thanks for the idea, but I already tried that. Next I am going to burn onto a CD-R.

I do not know, but Metal Slug 2 works fine for me...

1) Do you have the romset for MAME061 (check the files inside the ZIP archive)?

2) Is there a NEO/GEO BIOS files in that archive (MAMEX requires merged archives)?

3) Definitally use BLUE MAME, Green MAME wont load such a huge ROMset.

4) Try to delete all MAMEX related stuff on your harddrive and Run it for the forst time again (on the "clean/non MAMEX" HDD).

5) I personally have MAMEX on E partition and as I said, Metal Slug 2 WORKS!

As for the point #4, I mean delete all that saves and configs in UDATA etc. folders... you know what I am talking about... there maybe some fuckabout in there....

I haven,t replied cause my xbox drive crapped out on me and I couldn't ftp to it. We'll anyways I have some questions well here we go.

1) romset for MAME 0.61? How do you check this in the zip?

2) Where are the MAMEX files in the UDATA dir I couldn't find it?

Again I appreciate any help.

So from download information we can figure out that:

- [/B]romset has not changed since MAME 0.59 (MAMEX is based on MAME 0.61), so if you have up-to-date romset, the files inside should be correct[/B]
- you need to add neogeo.zip content into mslug2.zip content to merge the romset and make it playable on MAMEX (you have done it already right?)

ad 2) Well, I do not have my Xbox here, but as far as I remember, on E partition there are 2 system (or what?) folders UDATA and I think VDATA, simply 2 folders called ?DATA.

Look at each of them, there are many 0FFFFXXX etc. folders. [/B]Browse individual folders, so that you can figure out which one belongs to MAMEX.[/B] Yes, it is not that difficult, because you will see I guess CFG files of the games etc. in that folder something like 1942.CFG.. MPATROL.CFG..etc
And as for the other ??DATA folder there should also be some sign of relation to MAMEX, perhaps some default screen setting or who knows... I just remember that I was able to find both of them and I simply deleted them.

When you detele them, you clear up the MAMEX settings, and mostly important you will clear up CFG file for Metal Slug 2, so that it should start working for you. Well, this is, at least what I would do, if I were you. I do not know that much about MAMEX, but as I said Metal Slug 2 works for me. I would also delete MAMEX folder itself (just to make sure) and FTP it again.

For the conclusion here is my MAMEX setup:

MAMEX is on E partition in folder MAMEX.
Roms are placed in ROMS folder.
I have not changed ROM PATH in MAME.CFG file (if I remember well, it is some 6 months ago I installed it)
I have changed some other setting though like: hardware stretching ON, keeping aspect ratio OFF (so that games will always fill up the whole screen - that is the way they should be displayed except for vertical games of course), and I also enable sample - samples kept in SAMPLES directory of course.
I use PAL Xbox and before I start MAMEX I swith to NTSC because MAMEX does not support PAL-60 Hz, and NEO GEO needs 60 Hz (to run correctly).


I wish you luck and remember... Metal Slug 2 works on Xbox!
