It seems to me that uaeX only boots from kick13.rom (I think that's the filename specified).

I renamed a 3.0 kickrom to kick13.rom and it worked perfectly.

Get hold of v0.5 or above. it has 2 .uae config files, one for a500 and one for a1200 you have to rename the one you want to default.uae

so to emulate a a1200 you need to put KICK30.ROM in the rom images folder and rename the a1200 config file to default.uae
