                                    The defaults assume that the Roms on on a CD or DVD.

You need to edit the paths in the mame.ini file.

I have the same problem Nerv.

  I tried everything. I edited the ini every which way you can think of and still not go. I even tried to leave it alone and i still cant run it from HD, i get the same thing as you. I though i was the only one in the world that had this problem. I can run off cd just fine. But i want them on the HD.

  I did manage to get my high scores and controller configures to save!
