Will not work.

Mame is not a single emulator, it is a collection of emulators running at the same time.

Each emulator has a set of RAM resident ROMs loaded and required to be present.

In turn each emulator must talk to the other. For instance, you'll have at least two sound emulators running each with their own different roms.

As it is, timing is crucial to get any sort of decent performance, and the emulators are all written by hand, in assembly.

Don't look at Mame like a standard PC program which can swap out unused modules. Rather it's more like a collection of virtual machines that need to intercommunicate to all work.

why not create a virtual ram drive from the xbox hardrive...then use that as memory for the roms.

Just a thought.

No, No, No, No, No, No, No.

Will not work.

Look at the Mame CODE and you'll see why.

Amazing work that it is...
