Not Getting Full 120 Gb
« on: May 26, 2003, 05:19:00 AM »

So I have a Maxtor 120 and a Samsung 120. I want to ghost my Maxtor onto my Sammy, but because of the formatting ghost thinks my Maxtor has 117gb and my Sammy only 114. Can I reformat the drive to get more space or is there no hope?

Yep, that's normal. Remember to read the fine print on the box where it says 120GB=120,000,000,000 bytes. So when you format the drive and the PC does the space available (in bytes)/1024^3, that's what you actually see it reporting in GB. This will also vary between manufacturers because of the way low-level formatting works on different setups between 120GB (and other capacity) HDDs.
