It seems alot of people are having alot of the same questions! so lets just make a big FAQ and we can all learn somthing!

Q: Can i run XDK with a softmoded xbox that is retail?

A: Yes, you can. It's still preffered to use a modchip, but here is the tutorial.

Q:Can i move Xbox Neighborhood i dont want it on my desktop!

A: Yes, you can!

1. Download Tweak UI if the download is bad google it!

2. Run it and just click the desktop tab, do not expand it!, just remove the checkmark next to Xbox Neighborhood and click apply.

3. Thats it, Xbox Neighborhood is now in the all programs list!

Q: Where can i get XDK?

A: XDK is not public software, don't ask for it!

Q: Is there a alternative to XDK?

A: Yes it's called openxdk.

Q: Whats the latest XDK build

A: 5933 is the last build of XDK

i will update this in a bit with more complex questions soon!

whoops i did not realize that i cant edit the above message, oh well...

Q: Can i get my Development or Debug Xbox to run retail games?

A: Yes its extremely simple! Download the Hack-DevKiT Bios V2 by GueuX on the ususal places. Now go into Xbox Neightborhood and browse the E partition, look for the DXT directory. Place the GueuX-E-drive-Volume-B.DXT file in there. Reboot your Xbox, Open Neightborhood and you must see "Volume B:" in the root. Open it and put xboxrom.bin. That's it!

Q: My XDK launcher's video has turned crazy! Do this if you have changed the display settings and your unable to see video from the console.

Left trigger + right trigger + D-pad right = NTSC-M (North America)
Left trigger + right trigger + D-pad up = PAL-I
Left trigger + right trigger + D-pad left = NTSC-J (Japan)

Q: What is the difference between the Debug xbox and the Development xbox.

A: The Development xbox has SCSI port that allows DVD emulation with the Xbox Game Disc Authoring Tool, other wize known as XbGameDisc. The development xbox also has a serial port. Other than the SCSI, and serial ports the debug xbox is merely identical minus the clear case and extended top.

Q: What are the remote recovery command-line switches?

A:
CODE
/?
Displays a usage message,
CODE
/f
Forces installation over an existing newer install,
CODE
/s
Skips pre-setup,
CODE
/r
Resets a Xbox to default state,
CODE
/u
unattended mode no user interaction is needed, /e "AlternateExeName" Performs setup using resources packed in the specified executable,
CODE
/L langid
Installs the specified language,
CODE
/c "CustomDLLPath"
Specifies an alternate DLL,
CODE
/x xboxname
The name of the xbox to recover.\

Again more to be added soon.

The serial port is for kernel debugging. Also a easier way to play retail games on a dev kit or a debug kit is a app called Retail Game Loader v1.20.Just load the app on your dev or debug kit,run the app form the xdk dash and then run a retail game, also works for homebrew.

Can I upgrade the hdd on a dev or debug kit?

Yes its very easy, but a dev or debug kit cannot read a hdd higher than 137gb,its a limitation in the xdk bios.

First install your new hdd in your dev/debug kit,run the recovery disc dated later then August 2001,follow the on screen instructions. After thats done your hdd should work just fine, but now you need to format the F drive. You need a file called fdrive.dxt, its for F drive support.Run Xbox Neighborhood and then drop fdrive.dxt in the DXT folder.Reboot your console and enjoy.

How to install the XDK dashboard on a modded retail xbox using the recovery disc.
WARNING,use at your own risk.

This will work if used correctly.Just follow the instructions.

Ok first this will not work on a softmodded xbox, dont even try it,it will only work on a hardmodded xbox.

Flash your modchip or Tsop(on board bios) with a compatible debug bios,Yoshihiro debug bios is great to use.Once you have your bios flashed now its time to use the recovery disc.Run the recovery disc, once its gets to the point where it will ask you to confirm the kernel flash,DO NOT SELECT ANYTHING!!!!!

Power off your xbox, power your xbox back on and remove the recovery disc and the xdk dashboard should boot up.Congratulations, have fun and enjoy

Simple answer,no.Only licensed game developers are allowed. But instead of them plaing on xbox live they play on whats called PartnerNet,and they need a product code and a account with MS for access to there online servers.

Q: How to install XDK?

A: There hasn't been any change in getting it to run since 2003. Anyone with the brains and ambition to develop a useful app could probably have the dev environment up and running in half an hour using nothing but Google. Searched for days, and still sure that this is for you? Try the "Development" forums.
---
Q: With such a big installed base of the XDK among Xbox users, the homebrew software scene must be huge!

A: Actually no. You see, today the goal is just to have the XDK installed to impress your friends and make l337 screenshots, not to actually use it for developing software. Prove us wrong!
---
Q: Any frameworks, code samples, docs?

A:
- For Xbox hardware internals, see http://www.xbox-linux.org/
- For game-related examples, check samples included in the XDK!
- For a primer on development, check out http://www.xbdev.net/
- For extended API information, see XDK documentation!
- For a nice framework, dozens of already ported libraries, undocumented features, code samples, documentation, a project to contribute to, see XBMC.
- SDLx, build once, run anywere! (ok not really smile.gif) http://www.libsdl.org/
- OpenXDK, less eyecandy, more freedom: http://www.openxdk.org/
( + dozens more)
