Xdk - How To Run Retail/backups?
« on: April 30, 2006, 04:32:00 AM »

Hi,

Sorry for the questions guys, I did try the search but google search is not very good smile.gif

I picked up an almost mint XDK for £350 (erm, this is a good deal right), even came with sealed DVD emulator card and hard drive, XDK cd's etc. For some strange reason I always wanted one smile.gif I do have the source to a number of games that i'd like to port at some point but for now I'm just wondering how I can get this to run backups, retail games and homebrew stuff like XBMC?

Also, would I be able to replace it's DVD drive with a Samsung should I decide to open the unit? And lastly, sorry for all the questions would I be able to install a 400gb hard drive and if so is there an XDK bios with the LBA48 hack?

Many Thanks

To play backups and retails on your XDK, be sure to grab Hack-devkit-GueuX-V2.  It's in the usual places and it is very easy to apply.

Yes, if you decide to open the unit, you can swap the dvd drive without any concerns.

As far as the larger HD is concerned, I believe your best bet to run a debug BFM bios with LBA48 support.  I'm not quite sure on that one, so could some one verify this?

It would be a shame to brake the seals on your mint XDK, but if you don't plan on reselling it, then why not  biggrin.gif

Yer, i've not broken the seals yet (even the raptor card and hd are still sealed). I'm looking into getting a debug unit or getting a ram upgraded board to that I can just drop into an existing system.

If anyone has a dev unit with a larger than 137gb hard drive, please speak up smile.gif

Also, suggest X-S get an XDK/Debug owners club section to better share info on these XDK/Debug units biggrin.gif - Posting rights for those who post pics of there units with some sort of verification note in the image. I only mention as its hard to find XDK info here with google as the only search option.

Thanks

Thats what the Hack-devkit-GueuX-V2 is,its a BFM bios, and you can go only to 137 GB on a dev/debug kit.Its the limitation of the debug bios.No one has ever ran a HDD passed the 137 GB limit on a dev/debug kit.If you need anymore help dont hesitate to ask.

I recently acquired a debug kit myself.

One thing I found which might be of interest, if you do plan on doing any development with it, is that remote debugging doesn't work with Hack_Dev_Kit bios.

Retail games etc do work, but with that bios active I can't debug any of my code.

It's simple enough to enable/disable the bios, but worth being aware of if you do intend to do any developing.

Noooo, don't crack the seals! I'll trade you mine for yours. I want a sealed one and you want to crack yours open. A travesty a say tongue.gif .

Hehe, i've not cracked it yet. Everything still sealed up, lol. I'm at the moment trying to get a standard XBOX motherboard that has been upgraded to 128mb that I dump a larger HD in.

Thanks for all the help guys, i'm currently thinking of creating a resource for XDK owners and bringing all the information together on a single site.

Well if you decide to open it up you can always use a hair dryer to heat up to stickers on the bottom of your dev kit then peel it back enough to access the screws.

Are you sure you're using hack_dev_kit_V2? I debug with it all the time...

Don't encourage the act. You should know better. laugh.gif

Yea I know, but dont open it for curiosity,if you have a good reason then open it,like a bad dvd drive and such, when I had a dev kit the damn thing would not work,so I had to open her up to replace a bad ide cable.

Yep, debugging just don't happen.

I guess it could be something like the bios isn't compatible with the version of the xdk I'm using.

Sounds half interesting, lmk how you get on, if you need any help give me a shout I have quite a few different XDK's from Alpha 1 - final console.

Cool, I should have a domain sorted by the weekend and some hosting. Currently on 56k while moving ADSL ISP so it will be a week or so before it really gets moving. But i'm dead set on creating a site dedicated to XDK and Debug kit owners....

If you're still having trouble debugging, from the main xdk launcher hit "x" to go in to the settings. Go to the networking section and make sure you have both ip addresses set.

Otherwise i have no idea why you wouldn't be able to debug...

Hi

I have a debug Kit with Kernel 5335 and when i applied the Hack-devkit-GueuX-V2, all i get is garbage on screen. I can see that it did get to the debug launch screen but the screen is flickering. U think that this could be due to the xboxrom.bin?

Are you using s-video?

...Hack_Dev_Kit does NOT support s-video.

nope...just normal AV cables. I have a feeling it could be due to the video chip. Mine is a Focus.

I have not found another bios that works....

Puzzling thing is I have another debug kit (the green translucent one) and it works flawlessly with the Hack_dev_kit...
