Sending A Wake On Lan(wol) Packet
« on: October 10, 2005, 10:22:00 AM »

Hi,
Just wondering is there anything stopping me from sending a WOL packet out to a PC to turn it on. The feature would be an mod to XBMC perhaps, with a simple client(xbox) / server app on the PC to turn it as well off when needed.

Thanks.

Instructions.\par
\par
1. Agree you wont blame, kill, sue, molest ect myself for damanging you xbox in any manner.\par
I dont belive theres any harmful code but use it at your own risk!\par
\par
2.Unzip autoupdate.py to a folder on your Xbmc Script directory.\par
\tab ie. Scripts\\WakeOnLan\\autoupdate.py\par
\par
3. Open Xbmc and navigate to the scripts panel, the folder you created and run autoupdate.py\par
\par
\par
Autoupdate is a script which will download the latest version of the script to your xbox.\par
I tend to tinker with scripts a fair bit so an auto update process seemed to be a better method atm.\par
\par
Auto update cannon update itself, but wol.py will try to download the latest copy of the autoupdate script on load\par
\par
\par
Running Instructions\par
\par
Wake on lan uses the settings manager import\par
Settings can be changed by modifying the settings.xml file or by selecting choose settings in the wol menu.\par
\par
This script allows you to wake up supported computer on your lan with a click of your A button.\par
Currently 5 slots have been created and more can be added with simple script knowledge.\par
\par
Run the script and select the change settings option, here you can enter the mac addresses for the computers you wish you wake.\par
Added settings to name each of the computers for fun.\par
\par
General Information\par
\par
I found the wake on lan code while googling and have since misplaced the link, apologies to the author for no credit.\par
Contact me via email if you are thee, thanks for the snippet ;)\par
\par
I have an IRC monitor/client in the works as well, it can do the basic bot like stuff,  I've run into a snag where i'd like to have a loop run while still being able to use the gui and such. Im a python newb so my knowledge of that kind of thing is minimal. i tried a couple simple threading tutorials which just crash the xbox.\par
Email me please if your a guru with a bit of free time.\par
\par
More scripts to come as I learn\par
Thanks \par

is it possible to send a wake on lan packet TO the xbox? I like using it for music and if i could turn it on from the other room it would be really nice.
