As John Carmack announced during this years Quakecon event, the source code for IDsoftware's classic PC first-person shooter,
Quake3: Arena, would soon be released to the public under the GPL license. It's been some kinda tradition with Quake games that the source code gets released to the public a few years after its release.
Today the file was released for everyone to enjoy.
It should encourage the gaming community to create new games using these sources. The Quake3 Engine has been used by many popular games like 'Star Wars Jedi Knight II', 'Medal of Honor', 'Call of Duty' and 'Quake 3' of course.
The file is only 5.5MB and also includes a build of Q3Radiant (map editor). The source code 'as-is' can be compiled under Windows, Mac and Linux environments.
Someone feels like porting it to Xbox?
