AFAIK they're in the EEPROM, but revised code was necessary to read the EEPROM with XBOX v1.6 IIRC.  (This may never have made it into xbox-linux)

Try your double snapshot and compare test again using the ConfigMagic with the v1.6 enhancements.

Here's what I discovered (offsets from start of the disk):

Offset   Size Description
0x1054 4     IP Address
0x1058 4     Subnet Mask
0x105C 4     Gateway
0x1060 4     Primary DNS
0x1064 4     Secondary DNS

What I'd like to know now is if these address are standard of if they vary across different dashboard revisions

Regarding the EEPROM, you're not using an NKPatcher (with virtual EEPROM support!) in order to launch Linux are you?  That'd sure screw your results.

Certainly interesting findings.

I've a V1.1 XBOX.  I'll drop back to the 4920 Dash (the first with XBL support), and repeat some of your tests (EEPROM snapshots, etc.).

Not got around to it yet, but, for information, I planned to use EvolutionX to snapshot the EEPROM contents.

None of that indicates whether the settings are stored in the eeprom or not, just that evox knows where they are stored and is able to update them.

I've done some "seeing is believing" testing with Ndure and the results support friedgold's findings (on my K:3944, that's been on XBL):

the setup was 185ead00 in both the real C partition and the virtual C, plus virtual EEPROM was enabled;

the tests were done initially with virtual writes enabled and subsequently with virtual writes disabled...

non-network setting changes made in either the real or virtual MS dashboard where not shared (and were independently retained between shutdowns when virtual EEPROM writing was enabled);

however, they shared network setting changes ... indicating those aren't stored and/or retrieved from the EEPROM (or the C partition).

Hi,
I'm not with my Xbox in here, so I can not do any test for now.
If the network settings are in the HDD, PedrosPad (who has a mod chip), can format C drive and and check if the network settings are in the M$ dash. If they are, e can confirm that they aren't in the HD, if not, maybe they are in HD.
First, u must make sure your backed up dash don't have the network setings.
