beerchug.gif   KEEP IT UP.

Gotta a problem though, I cant open a bookmark, I get this error: "Error loading file://Q\System\Linksbrowser\bookmarks.html" no such file or directory.

Is there a workaround or setting to be configured?

Thanks.

Vic10us mentioned we could use XBEL for the bookmark manager which is a standard used in many other browsers so your existing bookmark lists from firefox, opera, etc. will be compatible with Links.  That would mean it would be very possible to import existing lists. smile.gif  This has not been confirmed that it will be done this way, but I believe it is in the plans.

I've ran into a problem. Followed the steps:

1. I downloaded the august 2nd CVS (the changelog appears to go to august 1st - should I try downloading august 3rd?)

2. Got linksboks intergration stuff

3. Copied the stuff over to the xbmc source and proceeded to overwrite the files.

4. Ran 'Build.bat' - Yes I have the XDK, visual studio etc, but do I do this or go into Visual Studio and then build.

5. Copied the newly compiled XBMC over to my box.

6. Noticed that there was anew menu - 'The Web'.

7. However, when I click on this nothing happens. No new screen, nothing. Just carries on with displaying the home screen.

8. What have I done wrong?

FYI, our sources are now synced to the latest XBMC CVS (2-3 hours ago).

i think that testing implies testing with the latest cvs.  and also- i think that this is kind of final.. in a way.  xbmc is on-going and so is this (i think.... ysbox? is it?).  so its not really final but i don't think its beta.  what would you call it? blink.gif

@amfdfireinside

...I'm pretty much speechless, please read the entire thread and you will understand why we do NOT want people posting builds with links for distribution until it is ready.  If you don't do your own compiles and don't have the tools to compile on your own then you probably shouldn't be using it at this stage of the game.  That doesn't mean you can't test, it just means we will especially not provide support of any kind to anyone using a distributed build because there isn't much we can do to help since it usually requires a recompile.

That said, I think you have a misconception about what CVS is and what a point release is.  CVS (concurrent versioning system) is a place where developers (the ones who write and understand code) work on their program.  It allows them to work together as a group with online projects.  Because of the nature of CVS and the fact that it is "bleeding-edge" code, it may not always be stable and may not even always compile.  That is where point releases come in.  Periodically projects will call a "feature freeze", during a feature freeze nobody is allowed to commit any new features, the feature freeze is a period of time for fixing and stabilizing the code.  This is my explanation, in a nutshell.

Alright, one more thing I want to discuss here, you mentioned why compile a new build every couple of days, well, those of us that follow the project and contribute something whenever we can keep our builds fairly up to date because we always know what is going on.  XBMC is an open source project, that means the developers donate their time and their knowledge, they aren't getting paid anything to do this stuff, it's all free, please try to be a little more thankful in your future posts.  Now, you also mentioned every month or so it's only a VERY MINOR bugfix...um...there were well over 800 updates last month, there were also several issues fixed, skin changes, new features added, etc.  XBMC is a very active project, and this kind of activity is not uncommon to see, that's a lot more the a few minor bugfixes.

By the way, is THIS you?

Regards,
Los93soL

EDIT: Startup video/song?  Try startup sound, it's actually called skin sounds and you can customize them quite easily.  This should be asked to Team XBMC anyway, NOT US.  I will not get into this with you so just drop it.  The entire post is off-topic and unrelated and will not receive anymore attention from me.

NOTE THIS:

This thread is for developers and people that have RELEVANT questions regarding links integration to XBMC.

It is NOT a thread to:

1: ask for builds.
2: discuss how, where and when to get it.
3: just jump into. READ the whole thread befor asking a question!

Further dumbass post will just make ysbox and los93sol1 to ignore it and you will have no info at all on whats going on!

I dont know about anyone els, but im getting tired of this unless your a coder and know how to compile your own version you can have it. THATS MESSED UP.  If its not ready and all I keep seeing is "its better", "it improved", "Its smaller but its still not ready". Just keep it to yourself. If I compile it. I would be seed it in torrents. I feel like im being  screwed like "ha ha we're better than you. and you cant have it."

I really dont see the big deal about  releasing a public beta.

...And it's attitudes like that which have led to less frequent updates on the status of the project.  The reason for not releasing a public beta is simple, there are still a few things that you (you are the public) will complain or have a gripe about.  It COULD have been released a long time ago, but wasn't because that WOULD HAVE LED to floods of posts on the XBMC boards (note that this is not officially supported until it is in CVS and EVERYONE has it, hence it not being released to the public) with people having issues.  Since the topic is already a controversal one, it is a priority to make sure it is as stable as possible BEFORE it gets to the masses.  Hope this puts things into perspective a bit more for people.  Also, sorry if you feel you are being teased, but would you rather be left in the dark and not have any idea what the status is?  Please just be patient and when it is ready you will have it, I cannot stress enough that the dev's who work on this or anything related to XBMC are not being paid, they do this in their spare time and hopefully for fun.

Regards,
Los93soL

EDIT: To those who already know this, thank you so much for your support and comments.  Please remember to thank the dev's working on this as well. smile.gif
