Xdk Installation Help
« on: February 19, 2005, 06:14:00 PM »

I am using the Hydras-World tutorial that is linked on the XS tutorials page as it seemed the easiest since it explains where all of the files go etc.

Anyways, I have softmodded my Xbox and am using PBL Metoo with the Yoshi-final-256k-2005_1.6 bios (Not sure if this is the correct bios but it is all that I could find that was supposedly compatible with the v1.6 Xbox) as an application so I can launch the XDK when I require it.

I have placed the XDK files as per the tutorial:-

When I load up PBL and the Bios all I get is a black screen.

Can someone please explain to me what is going wrong?

You may need to have your HDD unlocked using those bios. There is another Debug 1.6 bios that you dont, but i know one of Yoshi's requires the HDD unlocked.

1- Follow E-X-A-C-T-L-Y this tutorial.

2- Use a recent debug bios as your XDK (i got XDK 5849 and DEBUG Bios 5558. and it works fine. Maybe a too old bios wouldn't work with a more recent XDK so watch out.)

3- Make sure the bios you are using is REALLY a debug bios , AND that it's a 1MB BFM (Bootable from media). Note : Don't ask me where to get all this stuff. If you are ready to install XDK , you should be able to find that yourself. Two days ago i didn't know one single about SDK/XDK and about where this stuff is. And i found it. It's on the net believe me...So don't go telling me "i can't find it". The only hint i'm giving you is :

-Once you found the place where to get it (this place is well known..just think a bit..) the stuff you need is in /XBOX/bios/bootable from media/debug/

4- When you upload the XDK to your xbox , follow the order stated on the 1st post.

5- If you have followed the tutorial exactly like it says, have the good XDK , and uploaded the files correctly, it WILL work.

6- I would recommend getting XDK 5849 DEC 2003 + 5558_debug bios since that's what i have and it works 100%

7- Other questions ? PM me !

Addition to point #5:

5- [...] PLEASE NOTE that if you have BAD EEPROMKey AND/OR BAD RC4Key the XDK most likely won't launch or will give you ERROR 21. This is what happened to me. I can't tell you what the debug rc4 key is since it's illegal but i can tell you that in the boot.cfg file (of Phoenix Bios Loader 1.3) both EEPROMKey has to be blank (at least from what i deducted..) also , don't forget to comment out the key you are not using (depending on if you got a v1.0 or v1.1 xbox).

My boot.cfg file looks like that (i changed the RC4 Key since, again, it's illegal to tell you like that.) :

Reinert can you link me to the tutorial you used mate. I cannot get the xdk working with the softmod.

Also, what softmod are you using?
