New Xdk Release

QUOTE(Telemachos @ Mar 20 2005, 02:42 PM)
Hmm - it seems to me that some people are trying to spread incorrect information here for some reason (maybe they think it makes them sound cool?).

The latest release of the XDK at this time is 5849.15 and it was released just a month ago or such. There are no new major features, just some updates to some "XBox Live" stuff and some new libraries that developers has to link with before they can be approved for release by MS. I'm a professional game developer, I work with XBox development every day and have access to the official XBox development webpage. I think I would know if a new major relase of the XDK was available...

So stop posting crap to this forum - it drags down the overall quality of the information available (and it's hard enough to find useful information about xbox development already..)

And a welcome to you to...

Without wanting to turn this tread into some lame flaming war I must add that 'if' you are indeed a "professional game developer" then you should know that 5849.15 is very old.

...I agree, 'You' should know that there are a couple of more recent releases, but it's not our fault that you don't, so please stop referring to what other's and myself say as "crap".

The overall quality of the information available here is good because its something that we've strived to achieve, long before you ever came along.

And to finish...

...You mention that "It's hard enough to find useful information about xbox development already".

...If you were indeed a professional developer this would not be a problem as you should already have access to everything you could ever need, thus making developing easy.

Oh well, it appears I owe you guys an apology. I was just a little frustrated from searching in vain for a solution to my own little problem and running into less-than-helpful "sceners" at an IRC channel... so I might have been to quick to sneer at you guys.

It's still quite strange though - at work the latest XDk *is* 5849.15 and it was released on 2/09/2005 - are your releases newer than that? (And even so, I wouldn't call 1 month old software "sooooooo old" - and that was even a reference to an alledged 5849.16 release). My only explanation would be that MS has been releasing under different version numbers in different terretories (unlikely) - or that your releases are unofficial ones... In any case this seems a likely root for any confusion on this whole version-numbering discussion.

EDIT: And since we're using pictures as "evidence" now:

Well remember that release date does not necessarily correspond to creation date or indeed version number! ;)

Edit 1: BTW Telemachos, your link gives a 404.

Edit 2: Ah, sorted it. Text was right, but link itself was wrong.

Yeah, for some reason even though the url is printed correctly in the post it points to a wrong url (it say xdkreleases.jpg in the post but points to sdkreleases.jpg). The correct url is:

Lol...

Not "might" have been too quick to slag off, but "definately" too quick!

...Oh and there's nothing "strange" about the release numbering, if you was a "professional developer" you would understand how the numbering worked thus you wouldn't need to ask the question or doubt authenticity.

...Also don't bother 'guessing' your "explanations" as they are way off the mark and totally useless to everyone.

 :)

smile.gif Are you going to yell at me forever now? I'm ready to "start over" if you are...

But anyway - as I've posted already I had my reasons for saying what I said and, as can be seen from my release table, there is good reason if some developer told one of the original posters that 5849.15 was the newest release.

The reason why I'm continuing this post is simply that if a newer version is indeed available then I would be interested in knowing more about it. I'm not asking for any download links or anything - just that you tell me what kind of release you have (beta, official, special terretories, time of release etc) and maybe where it should be available from for registered xbox developers. Since you say you have newer releases then surely you won't have any problems giving me this imformation would you? Also, what is new in those releases compared to, say, the 5849.15 I'm using from this february?

I joined this board to have some serious discussions - not to enter flame-wars and engage in mindless bickering. I know I might have added fuel to this one myself, but now I've said I was sorry and I'll leave it up to you if you want to continue fighting or start sharing development information...

So which version are you two running?

And if I've got 5849, and don't plan on doing anything with Xbox Live, is there any reason to upgrade to 5849.16?

Hey thought I would add a little something. I'm new to developing, (don't even have XDK yet).

I agree that the latest official release could be 5849.15 however, I noticed a few days ago a release by WAM (not official, DUH) that says to be: "XBOX.XDK.5849.16-WAM"

The release date in the NFO says March,18 2005.

@iamcheese
thats a valid point, images always have to be taken with a grain of salt. Anyone can use photoshop these days!

i asked a friend of mine to look on dev site for any info about the .16 release but you have to take into mind that WAM might have tagged the .16 on the end so people would think it was special
