best method - don't account for them - you've got 4 axises - 10 buttons - and a d-pad, plan it out right and there should be no room for an exception. which is probably why the xdk doesn't handle them well at all - it's not an application dev platform - it's a game dev platform - and games follow a closed structure with almost 0 margin for a possible exception/user f' up, and definitely 0 margin for programming error.
