IS There Or Will There Be Instant Messager?

Is there instant messanger for xbox?  I asked on another section but they told me to ask somewhere else.  I think that a program for xbox that ran aim for msn would be great.  something like a little app that runs through evolution X or some other os for xbox.  but really i want to know what everyones opion is about this and that is why i have this poll.  would instant messanger be good for xbox?  i mean i think it would be great becuase of the fact that a lot of people run out of screen space with what they are doing already and this would help unvomplicate matters.  I really think that this could be one of the most used apps for the xbox if it was made and was reliable.  anyway's please reply cool.gif

Actually, the next version of MXM will feature a rich set of network capabilities, including "roll-your-own" internet connections, meaning somebody will probably be able to write interfaces to popular IM programs using MXM ActionScript.

You could do this right now with a linux distro on your xbox, running something like gaim or amsn.

Yeah I recommend just using linux for most things like that, as it already has a wide selection.

NOOO forget running it threw linux!!!!!!!!!!!! yes its cool but u gotta go to to much sh*t just to get in to Gaim!!! we need app just the the that purpuse an launch threw Evox or anyother dashboard and go right back to the main dash in 2 seconds!!!   we need a INStANT MESSENGER APPLICATION~!!!!!!!  beerchug.gif

I will look into writing a python scipt that would have minimal IM/Group chat capabilities. I started one a while back but had no keyboard integration at the time so I could only recieve text.  Python is more powerful now though so it might work ok.

funny, for me it's an easy & painless thing to do.  Most programmers would rather make something new and exciting not save you 3 seconds of annoyance.

ok cool, thanks for your help guys.  I think that this will be pretty cool.  Yea that would be cool to have it as an application but that new mxm program would be cool also.

I think It'd be better as a voice chat program cuz typing using a controller would suck
and lots of people hav communicators

Thats a good idea, with the headset but i wasn't planning on them using the controller, this i guise would be for people who have their keyboards and mice hooked up to the controller by converting one of the controller connections to usb or for people with the headset, i think both should be used if this is going to be worked on.  But yea, how does MXM work?

MXM has the ability to make direct internet connections using ActionScript (well, the private beta "WIP" release does). I will also be adding the ability to listen for connections, too.

Basically, since you can read/write internet sockets into buffers or strings, MXM should be able to handle just about any protocol, including Instant Messagers.
