I Kill My Xbox... :( Can I Make It Work Again?
« on: June 13, 2004, 12:18:00 AM »

Hi!
I'm using XBIT modchip on my XBOX and I wanted to update the MS Dashboard using the XBOX SDK 5849 but I didn't read the NFO  grr.gif and I start to update the Dashboard... and now i Can't Use my XBOX, is my xbox dead forever??

Now and after I read the NFO I know that updating MS Dashboard with a modded XBOX could kill it sad.gif

WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING!WARNING

If you have a retail modded xbox do not use the recovery disc or the remote
recovery executable. it can and will flash your bios, overwrite your
harddrive, and blank your eeprom. Unless of course you know what your doing.

do not blame us if you hose your xbox!

let this be a lesson...read the .NFOs

Yeap! I learned the lesson  rolleyes.gif

QUOTE
anyway, just try if you can boot an evox disk first

Doesn't happen anything, the screen still blank.

XBOX is blinking the red color.

QUOTE
1) do you have a backup of your eeprom?

Nope.

QUOTE
2) is your hacked bios still on the modchip?

I don't know because XBIT is crashing all the time with my Motherboard USB Controller, I have to check it on a friend's computer.

QUOTE
EDIT: what dash were you trying to update? the MS dash itself or the XDK dash/launcher?

I was trying to update to the latest one, using the Xbox Sdk 5849 December.

was the chip set to protected when you used the recovery disk?

No, it wasn't. Do you think if I flash BIOS again i could make XBOX working again?

QUOTE
BTW: you will probably need another eeprom...get a copy from a friend (don't use LIVE if he does) or buy one in the buy/sell forums

Is it easy to program an Eeprom on a XBOX? Do you have a tutorial?

Run a debug BIOS - they do not require a valid EEPROM.

Then run MXM or a similar dash to write the EEPROM (EvoX doesn't like Debug BIOSes)

...and don't EVER FUCK WITH RECOVERY DISKS AGAIN.

Come to think of it, read up and heed ALL WARNINGS.

How can I do that? Do you mean, I have to flash my modchip with a Debug BIOS? I visit the usual places to download the BIOS and I don't know what bios I have to download it. Can you tell me the filename of a good Debug BIOS?

For example: debug-1.4-Gueux-NeT.rar , is a Good Debug BIOS? I read that I can't flash this BIOS on a Modchip.

Or for example: 5101_bfm.zip, on the Retail Folder is a Good BIOS?

Let me see if I can put XBOX booting without any problem smile.gif

Assuming you have a 1.0, 1.1 or 1.2 version Xbox, you can use the TATX "Dual debug" BIOS.

It's 512k.

The other alternative is to use a Cromwell BIOS and use a password recovery program. There's a tutorial in X-S's tutorial section, I'm sure, on how to recover from an EEPROM wipe using that method.

My XBOX is 1.3, but I will verify at home by the Date.

Can you give me the direct link for the tutorial? wink.gif

Well, I just did a quick search, and couldn't find the tutorial.

That suprises me, as there used to be (it's probably still up there, but the link is at home) a page dedicated to using Cromwell to recover the flash. You flash your mod chip with Cromwell, load it up and use a program to write a new EEPROM image to the Xbox.

Maybe somebody here still has the link.

Ahhh.. problem:

http://members.cox.n.../xboxeeprom.htm is no longer available.

Try using the "Wayback machine" to see if it's archived (cut and paste the URL into the window you see).

My work internet won't let me access the wayback machine. You are on your own from there.

if you are planning to use the xdk to develop, only VS .NET will work with newer versions of the XDK. VS 6.0 is supported on earlier versions.

if you are not planning to compile or write programs, you don't need VS to install the XDK utilities and use them.
