look heinrich, I'm not trying to be a smartass and I honestly dont know anythign about XBox software development.  I would really appreciate however if you could tell me what this code you just posted has to do with me getting a homebrew app or dashboard to run on an unmodded xbox.  If you can do that, could you maybe also tell me how I could use this and make it work?

the encoding for signing is something liek 2048-bit, thats insanely high, by comparison a secure IE connection (which is pretty tight) is 128-bit

there are teams working round the clock, but it will still take around a million years (im serious) just by random chance

Yes, and you didnt take my advice and search.. here are 2 topics to get you started:
http://forums.xbox-s...0&hl=public key
http://forums.xbox-s...6&hl=public key

Once you have the private key, you should be able to use xbedump to sign the .xbe (in theory).  This will still not let you 'just burn with nero and run it', as the xbox checks the media type, and isnt going to run anything from a cd-r.

Ok let me make myself a little more clear then.

First off, I asked this question here because you are all programmers and I thought you might have an idea of how this could be done.  I guess I was wrong so let me move on...

Next, I'm trying to develope a hack that lets you more or less download my version of evox.iso, burn to a CD-RW, stick it in any xbox, and have it load Evolution X with no problem.  There seems to be a problem with this however:

I don't know MS's Code for signing Apps.

The only programs we have for signing so far are for the Font, Audio, and gamesave explots.  We dont have any for signing apps. Why?

Nobody seems to know the key MS uses to sign these with.  Thus since I feel like Ive just repeated myself, It should eb very clear as to what I;m trying to do and why I can't.

So in conclussion, if somebody would like to help me with figuring out how to make homebrew apps or dashboards run on any unmodded XBox simply by putting the disk in the drive, it would be very appreciated.

He said CD-RW, which does work.

lol, no, I am not talking about what the xbox can read, I am talking about the media type.  You know how when you put a disc in a PC, windows knows if it is is a cd-r, cd-rw, dvd-rom, dvd-r, dvd-rw, etc, etc?  Ya, the xbox can do the same thing, and if the disc isnt XBOX GAME DISC or whatever it is that it is looking for, its not going to run.

This is the problem right here.....

don't you think we would have done this already if it was easy to do????  dry.gif

It takes something like 2 million years or something to factor the key.....  wink.gif

Done. He can always prove his claim of being a member of Team X to me, as they know how to get a hold of me.

I've banned his Aussie ass (yes, he posts from a .au ISP) in the meantime.

Well, thanks to heinrich for showing me a few things about this "private key" I have also learned that it is not a silly little code.  Sorry if I have offended anybody.  But what I was sayign about the bios is since the private key and the public key have to match up so to speak, why is it that it takes us the power of distributed.net to make a puny attempt at finding the key when the xbox knows exactly what to look for and can do it in less then a second?

So it's like this.  The formula for the private key must be stored on the XBox.  The formula being the one used to determine wether the private key on the disk is true or not.  If we had that formula, which should obviousy be stored in the bios, it would be soo much easier to find this private key.  Ready what I just said very carefully and tell me if I'm wrong or not.

Please STOP.

You clearly lack an understanding of public and private key signatures. People here have tried to explain it to you, yet you refuse to listen to them.

There is no private key in the BIOS. Only a public key is needed. Signatures use an assymetrical formula - the private and public keys are generated at the same time. They are the yin and yang of the whole scheme. You simply cannot factor the private key, however, as it is 2048 bits in size. Can you comprehend how large that number truly is? A brute force approach would require you to try EACH NUMBER, out of the quadrillions of trillions of billions of possiblities. It requires you to take a sample bit of data, and SIGN the data with your test private key, and see what if the resulting signature matches with your public key. This take quite a few CPU cycles in itself.

This is exactly what people HAVE been trying to do - but with the thousands of PCs working at it, they have not cracked it in 3 years.

So this is the end of this thread. It's LOCKED. Do not post any more on this subject. If you still fail to understand, then there is nothing more that can (or should) be said, because the matter would be beyond your capacity to comprehend - in which case, it's pointless for you to broach the subject.

Leave it to people who, while perhaps didn't unerstand it at first, at least take the time to listen and absorb the information, and accept the reality and truth to understand what is going on with M$ signature scheme.
