im a Computer Security and Investigations student at a college in ontario, canada. just so you guys know this is for a school project that i want to propose to my prof. im coming to you guys because this site is one of the most respected in the xbox underground community .  i am planning on developing tools to aid investigators in fraud and child porn investigations. as you all know the xbox is basicly a computer and given the knowledge available it can be used to store things such as credit card number, any personal information, and tons of porn. most investigators overlook xboxes because they are just a video game console and in failing to look at it let some dirty pervs  get away with storing their kiddy porn on it. please let me know if you are intrested and we can further discuss my idea.

This may seem like a good idea and all. But there quit a few people in this community that have pirated games on their boxes, wether downloaded or rented. Now why would they want to get themselfs in trouble?

i understand that.  im not trying to get ppl in trouble just need help. i am a supporter of the underground community and i have alot of copied games my self and im not afraid to say it either.

just looking for some information on the FatX File system. and if there is ne way possible to map the xbox (ie file listing and or drives) to Windows.  right now this project is still in the preposal stage as it has to be approved by my prof first.  according to him no tools for a forensic nature exist for the xbox.

But what I dont understand is why everybody is dead set againt it ?

If you not into kiddie porn then you have nothing to worry about, right ?

I also understand where the scene is comming from too.  

But with the pervs becoming more and more savy in hiding there materaial.  

I would support this project even though I have a few copied games that I would not wast my money on cause they suck but my kids like them

thx for the support BlackBishop.  just one thing for u guys to think about. how often do you hear about someone getting arrested for having copied games??? probably never.  hell in toronto theres stores that sell them and the stores have never once been busted...  how often to you hear about someone getting arrested for kiddy porn??? almost everyday....  police don't want to go after ppl that have copied games. hell everyone does it. even cops...  Albeit M$ thinks piracy is wrong but they aint gonna stop it ever... kiddy porn and stealing ppls Credit Card info and SIN # is fucking wrong... im not here to bust ppl for copied games and i never will. i want to put sick twisted ppl  and ppl that like ruining others live in jail.  if you want to support this idea then great if not then fine but don't say what im doing is wrong.

How often did you here of people getting sued for downloading music back in the day. You didn't. But recently it has happened.

given the advancement of technology i don't belive that piracy is evergoing to stop wheather it be music or video games. same with other crimes in general.  take alook at weed. lots of ppl smoke it.  some say its wrong. others say its right. even though there is a law against it its not gonna stop ppl from doing it. same with kiddie porn and fraud. im just saying that somethings are more serious then others and need specialty tools to catch these ppl cause without them what do we have? forinstance take alook at murder  without highly advanced tools forensic investigators use  many crimes would go unsolved cause the evidence can't be collected.  i know it appears im trying to pick and choose morals but im really not. i can ask you the same question why do you think piriating software is right or wrong?  all in all piracy isn't the problem here. and i can argue with you all day about it but thats not what i want to do.

I didn't went thru all the hoopla but from the short glimpse I had of it, your intention is to look at the files inside the xbox. There are tools readily available for what you wanted to do. Most dashboards and file managers can give you the entire content of the HD. You can even do it from Windows or any OS via FTP client. Ain't that enough? If people has the capability to manually put something in there, then that xbox is, more than likely, already modified so your boot disk should work without having to do anything else.

Something I really don't understand is how you are going to idenitfiy the images... I'm 100% sure theres no advanced algorithm to identify if a image holds childporn or cartoons. You can't identify it by a algorithm.. you would need to sit down on that xbox and go through all images.. thats the only way! So you're program wouldn't work to well...
