Couple Of Noob Xbox Development Questions
« on: December 27, 2003, 11:25:00 AM »

Hey folks,

Couple of quick questions.

1.  Is it realistic to develop apps for the xbox with only one xbox (that is also used to play games....)?
2.  Will any bios work for development?  If not, do any of the Xecutor bioses work (I like the IGR)?

TIA

biggrin.gif )....anyway, put Phoenix on your xbox like any other game/app, and when you need to debug just run the Phoenix Loader.... youll also have to find the PC side of the XDK which noone can help you with either... (p2p)

This will help you too (to put the debug software on your xbox)

Well, since I have an Xecutor 1, I only ready run Phoenix Bios Loader (so that I can get access to the new bioses).  So, that's taken care of.

Already got the XDK too.

So, I guess all that's left to be done is install the debug software onto the xbox.  Sweet.

Hmmmm.....Problem though.  According to that link you posted:

"Debug bioses look for "Edashboard.xbx" when you turn your machine on,  this file tells the xbox what program to load first,  in the case of a debug machine it needs to load "Cxshell.xbe" instead of "Cxboxdash.xbe""

So, does that mean that since I always use a debug bios, no matter what, XDK Launcher is always started at boot up?

Anyway around that?  Like, I want my dashboard to load, and then to load the XDK Launcher from that whenever I want to program.

why run the debug bios always?

use a retail bios on your mod chip, run evox like normal, and WHEN you want to debug have the PBL run the debug bios (therefore loading the debug dash)

I always run debug because I have a non-flashable modchip (Xecutor 1).  So, I use PBL to load up the new bioses so I can have all the cool new features like IGR.

So, is there a way to only load XDK Launcher from a dashboard instead of having it load everytime?

How would this be done then?  Like, basically should I make a new folder in the C root for my development PBL, and inside that put PBL and xshell.xbe?  But otherwise keep everything else the same (i.e. put all the other files in their correct spots).

Would that work?  Would this affect game playing at all?

Why not get pbl 1.3.5i that lets you run a menu and select a bios?  Just leave your normal bios that runs as xboxrom.bin and when you want to run the debug bios, just hit A when PBL starts up, and run your debug bios.

Ahhhh.....OK.  I got confused.  I thought all the BFM bioses we were using in PBL were debug.  I didn't realize that it could load non debug bios also.

K.

Thanks!
