Converting your retail xbox to debug w/o f'n anything up (softmod friendly)
by kornkob
Notes: "shouldn't" muck with anything because everything is contained to e: and no system files are overwrote... NOTHING is done to c:. Everywhere that's mentioned to change "Partition2" is to switch the file to use e: instead of c:. VERY easy to convert but don't try it if you aren't good at following directions or don't understand something.
Needed Tools:
-Complex 4627 debug dash (good luck finding this heh, xbins no-no)
-TATX dual debug or Complex 4627 debug bios, BFM version for softmodded boxes
-Hex editor (i use AXE)
-modded xbox (i use audio exploit that loads phoenix bios loader w/ x2 4977)
-Phoenix Bios Loader (i use PBL 1.3.5i) if using softmodded box
-Debug RC4 key (not quite sure how i got it, another underground thing)
-XDK (if you want to use remote debugging and developing applications, taking screen shots and capturing movies)
------Overview-----
Convert a modded xbox to debug with no risk, everything contained in e:
If using a chipped box, skip the pheonix bios loader part, just flash a non-bfm version of the bios to your chip
------Preparing Phoenix bios Loader and copying over------
Extract PBL to its own folder
Edit the boot.cfg in wordpad (formats the text right), comment out the EEPROM line for the xbox you don't have (use a # to do this) and add in the RC4 key to boot.cfg
Place your chosen bios into the bios folder and ftp it over to your xbox somewhere on e: (i use e:appsdebugdash)
------Preparing files and copying them over------
Extract all of the dash to its own folder
Open up edashboard.xbx in a hex editor, replace Partition2 with Partition1 (switching the path to use for opening xshell.xbe)
Open up cxshell.xbe in the hex editor, replace all occurances of Partition2 with Partition1 (might not be case sensitive, so search for partition2 as well)
Copy c and e and put them on e: on your xbox, keep all directory structure the same
Boot up your xbox and run PBL, hit A when it says and pick your bios. You should then be greeted by the almighty Debug Loader.
Optional Step:
------Screenshot/Movie Capturing------ *Need XDK*
Install Xbox Neighborhood, then add an xbox and put in the ip or machine name you assigned to it. Right click on it and you can take screenshot and movie captures.

Need guinea pigs to try it out, make sure i didn't leave anything out
edit: thanks for moving, not sure what forum it would go under
