Some of you will think it's some bs questions, others I know are wondering the same thing. So this is how it is....?

You cannot compile programs using the MS sdk cause that would be illegal, and there isnt another xdk (except openxdk) that is capable of compiling something like the xbox media player/center source codes..

So all the people who have the media player installed on their xbox compiled it illegally?

I wanna set up a badass system, media player, linux, evo-x dash, run homebrew apps, play games, the whole shabang but if I cant install em without it being illegal then screw it.

I know the ms sdk is out of the picture so what other alternatives are there?

I might be misunderstanding you, but not everyone who has XBMP compiled it themselves.  Most used a precompiled release that's not publicly available because of the legality reasons of using the XDK.

The only legit BIOS so far as I know is Cromwell, which pretty much leaves you with being able to run Linux, if that's all you want to do.  Otherwise, almost anything else you'll want to do is going to be illegal in one form or another.  Evo-X, Xecuter bioses, homebrew apps, you name it.

There's word of some new software that'll give a lot more power to a programmer without being forced to rely on the XDK.

because you need a hacked bios to run homebrew things. the openxdk was slow as hell and everyoneused the ms xdk so they stopped.
if you want to mod you're in a gray area of the law. if you don't want to take that risk don't mod

well, I dont wanna render my system to a linux only system, but I also dont wanna use a modchip. I would rather use an exploit (mechassault/bert&ernie/007) and be able to modify the bios that way, but if everything is gonna lead to the same problem, me not being able to load up media player and evo-x cause they were compiled illegally then there really isnt any point.

Btw, how come the open xdk isnt really worked on? am I wrong but when I was looking on sourceforge today it hasent been updated since 2002.

maybe I am misunderstanding you, but something ebing illegal has nothing to do with if it will boot up or not...

you said is there a legal way to modify the bios....... Seeing as how the bios you're wanting to put on there is illegal the answer is no. All of these bioses are the original bios... just modified. They are pretty illegal. If you don't want to break the law then u can't really mess around with bioses. That's why they aren't available on this site.
