One Ip-config For All Programs

Hello everyone,

How about making this much easier? Establish one common config file, e.h. c:config.xml, that includes IP configuration and similiar stuff. Examples are gateway info, default language, default username, maybe some important dirs like where your games are located. The list goes on.

So a developer could just use this default file (if it exists) to read out the required information, installation would be a quick&easy process, as well as changing the IP adress if required.

Obviously this would have to be implemented in current apps as an additional feature, but I believe it is a good idea to do so.

What do you think about this idea? Any criticism is welcome  smile.gif

Hi,

I think this is a great idea, and would really help.
But and a big but, nobody is going to change there software :-(
If you maybe get the mediaplayer guys to change, then maybe you would have a chance.
As most poeple use mediaplayer, and there is everything you need in mediaplayer.
Maybe too much?

I would give it my support.

If they do, the local config still needs to be able to override the global config, as it is useful to enable different programs to use different ips.

Yeah I see no problem with that.

Well this shouldn't be a problem at all, it is up to the devs how to make use of that config file. And as for changing their software, I do realize it is somewhat hard to establish a new standard for something like this.
Maybe we really could convince the xbmp team or some dashboard teams, but I don't wanna crosspost to other forum sections. Probably I will just point them to this thread as its a matter of development in general.
