Still No Decent Universal Dvd-player!
« on: September 08, 2003, 06:08:00 PM »

What the topic says...

I've been cursing the skipping of NTSC movies on my PAL system for quite some time now.

As many probably know, to be able to play NTSC dvd-video on a PAL Xbox without skipping, one must change the videomode using for example a switchdisc. Sure, it works, but on most television sets NTSC picture is badly centered etc.

And no, PAL-60 doesn't make the situation any better.

I KNOW there's a way around this :

either a 'kludge' method of simply putting decent screen adjustment settings to a DVD-player (so one could put their xbox in ntsc-mode and then adjust the screen - enormous hassle, though),

or a 'real' method of syncing the ntsc-video correctly to a pal-television, a process that's properly implemented in for example DivXG400, a program originally developed to fix similar problems in Matrox videocards.

Perhaps the devteam of DVDX2 will catch this post and fix their software or perhaps a DVD-playback function will be added to xboxmediaplayer... We are waiting :)

Also, other PAL users with same kind of frustrations, if you have figured out better workarounds, please let me know.
