Is This A New Thought Or Has It Been Explored?

how well does this work? how often would the image you recieve be updated?

edit: checked Ultr@VNC's FAQ:

- Video Hook Driver (Win2000/XP): Provides both speed and accuracy for server screen changes detection and ensures hundreds of updates per second. Whatever the activity on this screen, the server CPU rarely exceeds 25%. Most of time the WinVNC CPU load is between 0% and 5%... When using a Viewer in FullScreen mode connected to an Ultra Server using the driver, you really feel like you are in front of the real server !

i guess only 50 or 60 fps are needed to display things perfectly
if anyone gets bored enough to port this in order to play pc games on the xbox, it would be nice to play pc games on xbox through pc....that's nice and confusing

No, but I'd love to check it out. Do you have a link? Googling the term "live linux" is well, less than informative in this case.

it's like ssh, but with desktop instead of command line

Actually, no.  VNC is more akin to an X server, if anything.  SSH, on the other hand, is a protocol a establishing secure connections.  VNC can even be tunnelled through SSH.  Find out more here: VNC through SSH

i meant this only in their basic concept, remote access

VNC would be a good idea for running apps, and maybe some web based (flash etc) games, but I wouldn't think it would work well for running something like quake 3 arena. HOwever it would be fine for surfing the web, email, MS office apps, just about any app that is not graphically loaded with bandwidth.
