Slayers Auto-install V2.2
« on: August 10, 2003, 12:10:00 PM »

I'm in the middle of making the update for the new Slayers Auto-Install v2.2.  I just want to get some feedback from some of ya'll...

Currently on it right now is the same features as before with new additions such as:

choose between installing EVOX or MxM

XBMP 2.4
Several emulators
Newer Bios updates

...I need to get some suggestions or requests on what else you'd like to see on there...

I was looking at putting a hacked MS Dash on there...but thats currently not a big priority unless others want it.

Also...I dont want to burn any bridges with 1wolf1 by calling this release "Slayer's Auto Install v2.2" so if it does I can rename it.

Also...will I be able to post this in #xbins for people to get? Or is someone willing to host this?

Let me know!

Have you Pm'e wolf? 'cause I get the impression there's a Final version. Meaning the last one. Just make sure it's as reliable as Slayer's before putting it out there. Slayer's can get you out of almost anything. And he doesn't like cheap rip offs.

thats one of the problems i think were gonna eventually have to face...

...finding a reliable source for people to grab this...i personally dont see why #xbins cant host this...only for the simple factor of bandwidth...but we'll see...if we can make this unbelieveable...maybe they'll WANT to host it...

and as far as previous versions are concerned...you're gonna have to use P2P programs to find older slayers copies...they arent on #xbins

yeah compilations would just cause major havok...cause this is for ... in a way for newbs ... and that would only be a disaster ...

its difficult to limit the size when you need it to contain all the necessary files, cause in a way, this disc contains all the necessary files to get the box up and running when it fails...so you dont want files not to be there when u need them...only because u wanted to limit space...you know?

for V2.2 add the two proggys (can't think of the names at work), which let you back-up games to the HDD/back-up games to the pc.

No, we will not host it as we have never hosted slayers.

Yes, it is a bandwith issue. Thousands of people a day get files from xbins. We are talking 200k-15mb files.

We pull a enormous amount of traffic as it is, and if we hosted slayers it would literally twenty fold our bandwith. As this is a charity, and no one is paying us to give to the community, we can only extend what we have to work with. I feel what we have is suficient.

Even if bandwith wasnt a issue, im really against slayers. Not in the sense that its not a nice piece of work...as its great. But the fact is that it doesnt teach you jack shit. Its a tool that will forever keep newbies from learning. Go get HD evox 1.4 ....1.2 was out months before slayers ever existed, and it will auto format your harddrive, and install apps wherever you select them. It does this *gasp* without the need of filling a package full of a thousand things you probably are never going to use.  Put what apps you want in it, where you want it, and your set to go.

PS- theres no way you can make a evox installer 'unbelievable'. You are better off writing your own dashboard.

i myself have learned alot from these forums...and i owe all my xbox ... experiences to X-S ...

...with that in mind...

....slayers has taught me TONS and TONS....i like to learn by EXAMPLE....i see what works...then i improve it...by learning what worked in the past....then make it better...

...NEWBIES....we all WE'RE, need i remind you....much learn the same way....

MSN25, WHAT THE HECK IS THIS?

I do not recall giving ANYONE permission to use my name or my installer's name to simply hack something I have worked very hard to make a solid and dependable "household name"   mad.gif

It really ticks me that even though I asked if anyone wanted to pick up the slack, become a member of my team and help with development, no one has even bothered to email me, yet all of the sudden I am finding out of an imminent release of MY installer?!?

Go nuts editing it out, improve on it, even use some of my scripts, but DO NOT call it "SLAYER'S EVOX AUTO-INSTALLER"  muhaha.gif

As someone said already, people expect a level of quality, testing and foremost support, even from a free product.  I do not want anyone associating a hack of MY tool, with the real mcoy, regardless of what you add to it!  Call it whatever you want, except SlaYer's EvoX Auto Installer, and build your reputation on your own, not on mine!

Yeah, and where did you come from? I do not recall you even asking to work with me on this, and that is the only only kind of product I will back and approve!

"Using features from", "based on...", "designed from..", etc.. are all OK.

Do not be a thief, PM me immediately with confirmation that you will cease and deceist using my product name, or anyone else's, without express permission!

Permission to use my code, yes, but NO ONE got permission to use my name!!!!

Anyone can call their tool whatever they want, just not "SlaYer's...."

BTW, I do hope you've remembered to mention it was based on my tool.  wink.gif

Yeah i know that... its going to be called something like 'Ultimate Installer' or something

I of course am going to mention it was first based on your tool... however it isn't going to be ANYTHING like yours anymore as it is going to use Something else other than Evo-X to install it  cool.gif
