1wolf1 .......... this is right up ur ally ... why dont u make a auto-install and make it quite easy for us ... ?????

ie ...

SLAYERS MS DASH AUTO-INSTALL v1.0

Ha Ha Ha, nah, not for a long time... laugh.gif

I worked my ass off on two installer versions.  I am sitting on the side lines on this one untill it evolves a bit.  Remember my installer is designed to be used by noobs, so if developers and people like me are having problems you can imagine what would happen....

In tone with that, anyone know what the heck is happening and why my dash modding attempt failed?  I mean I followed ALL instructions, used virgin M$ signed files to work with  and got positive confirmations all the way!  Yet I get reboots or Error 21 depending on the bios I use (X2 4977 color or X2 4977 virgin)

The only thing I can think of is that my xbox is v 1.1
Is that why this is happening?  Anyone confirm it works on v1.1, and if so, exactly what bios did you use?

Whenever it reboots a screen comes up that says error reading disc. sad.gif

I found a little bug in the porgram, it didn't hurt anything, but it was annoying to have to rewrite everything.   Anyway, here's the bug.

If you place commas "ie.  This does this, this, this, and this " in the ITEM INFO box, then save your menu, then load the saved menu;  the commas cause the info behind them to replace the information in the XBE NAME box and the PATH TO XBE box.

Oddly enough this didn't effect the dash when I made the menus.  I made them, built the menu, signed the dash, uploaded it to the XBOX and they work perfectly fine.  Only later when I went back to make adjustments did I notice this bug.

I was also wondering if it would be possible for you to add the ability to edit the main menu titles from "Storage" and "Quick Launch" to whatever the user wants.  I personally have gutted EVOX and am using it solely for FTP puroses.  So, I would like to rename "Quick Launch" to "FTP Server" without having to manually do it.

Anyway, great program!  This has deffinantly made things easier!

For the love of god, someone please post a really good walkthrough on this (I know the ones you've been posting are great, but I'm still stuck) - including what version of the dashboard you need to use, and you need one that you don't already have, then post how (not where to get it) to install it on your Xbox, so you can use this great utility.

Ok, for everyone who can't figure out where to get the latest dash, heres how.

1.  Go to your local video store
2.  Rent "Star Wars:  Knights of The Old Republic" (there are other LIVE enabled games that will update your dash to the latest version, but I'm 100% positive about SW:KOTOR)
3.  Place disk in XBOX
4.  Go to the Download content option
5.  Wait while it updates your dash to the latest version

It is that simple people!

This will even "fix" any changes you may have done to your original dash.  So, be carefull you don't "update" your edited dash.

Will this work for any Xbox Live game that has 'download content' on it, and do you have to disable your modchip first?

What I did was go to Burnout 2 (I'm sure it will work with any other LIVE enabled game too) on my F:games folder with boXplorer then just ran the file "dashupdate.xbe".....and BOOM, it updated the dash.

After you do this, can you use this as your default dashboard, or do you have to boot to it from EvoX? I would rather use the MS dash, with a link to EvoX in it. Should be my last question.

your probably gonna want a hacked dash and an original so you need to do what intestineman did back on page 2 of this thread it works great and yes if your bios looks for evoxdash.xbe first then move your evoxdash.xbe to e or f and then name the hacked MS dash evoxdash.xbe.

Ok, I finally got it working, I added Apps and Games to the menu, with a link to EvoX, boXplorer, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer - now the problem is, when I choose "Quicklaunch" form the Dashboard, I get "error: does not exist" - what did I do wrong? I followed the instructions just fine. Do I have to do something to get the dash to recognize my F drive?

My bad - didn't realize it save the new folders to 'storage' - is there a way to change the name of that part?
