Changing The Color Of The Ms Dash

All materials(colors) are embedded in the xboxdash.xbe file.

So, unless someone can find all the offsets for them and make a patcher, no, color will stay green. (But I'm sure someone will take the time to find them for a specific version of xboxdash and code an app...)

Just take a hex editor and look through the file and see if you find anything interesting. I doubt that you will be able to change the color as you wish, but if you just mess around with it, I'm sure you will find something of interest.

Would it really be so difficult to find the colors? The way I see it:

- Just find some screenshot of the dashboard
- Look for an area where the color changes the least (that way the difference should be most noticable... I think.. and hope)
- Use an image editing programm to retrieve the RGB value
- Optional: If the RGB value is not in Hex-> Make it so.
- Use a hex-editor on the xboxdash.xbe to find the RGB (hex) values.
- Optional: When no results are found, you could try searching in the BGR order (in case it is reversed in the Xbe),

Maybe this might help, maybe not... anyways: Goodluck!

Well, i used a proggy and went through some stuff and I found in a .xip file for the dash. I saw interesting files such as cellwall.xbx and Inner_cell-FACES.xm . I think this is where we could change some stuff if wanted. the xbx files are texture files and the proggy is calling the xm file an "Xbox Mesh Reference." This is where i think the key to changing stuff lies... although, i have tried using another proggy that is supposed to convert xbx images but doesn't seem to "recognize" it so i guess we are stuck waiting for a newer release of the proggy unless someone is willing to do some serious developer-like hacking with this and see what they can do.

this is the only image of colour changing. On page 4 of this forum, the first xdash hack thread with 32k views. One of Voltaic's first edits.

I remembered seeing this at the start of the toying around. Theres only a few xdash threads with lots of views/replies, I'd expect more board searching from you guys tongue.gif

Um, what exactly has changed, color-wise, in this screenshot?

CODE
DEF theBackground Background
{
   skyColor 0 0 0
}

the 0 0 0 is R G B

but when you edit them they don't use the same numbers as rgb values
all you have is 0 - 1
1 being the highest i think if i remember correctly

So to get a blue background you would put 0 0 .5 or something so it wont be so bright
Alls this does is change the sky color though

I don't know if yall already knew this.  It just looked like yall didn't know where the sky color changing was coming from.

Oh and you can definately tell the color change on your tv screen although it doesn't look like much in the pic.
