Good Job On The Dashhack
« on: July 06, 2003, 07:15:00 PM »

I had the same question a couple of days ago. Basically, what I've done is copied the code for the settings menu, and added a button to my main menu that activates it. After I clean it all up I'll release the code on one of the forums. Quicknote, xtech and a bunch of other people have figured this out allready, I'm just learning from them.

Dlux,

For the SettingsMenu-looking submenu, did you simply copy 'theSettingsMenu level' into default.xip--default.xap? Or made a completely new xap file? (Such as etc.xap)

If it was the second method, it would be much more easier to handle each menu, and there would be no rebooting to get back to the main menu.

...Going to try it right now.

All I really need 'hacked' in the dash is the ability to launch a launcher (MXM, Avalaunch, Evo-X) from the main menu and the ability to play DVDs without the dongle.

Besides that, different colors would be useful.

Beyond that, it may be expecting too much from the dashboard. As a general apps launcher, it involves too much work to maintain...

Extracting the models, however, might be useful for other projects.

Yes.... if I wasn't so damn busy, I'd do that and make sure it found it's way to "The Usual Places"

I have yet to see a hacked dash out there though....

Oh.... and we need a hacked dash for another reason: to replace the original dash f'ed up by the Bert/Ernie and ST.SB hacks. I'm thinking one that renames the "Bert/Ernie" xtf files in the xbe (or XIP, wherever they are defined) so a renamed, hacked M$ Dash can still be loaded.

Just my 2 cents worth.... added with my above suggestions, combined with a signature to boot via the hack, and viola! Original dashboard with extras, clock support, and access to the homebrew dashboards and apps!
