I wanted to know if you could write something for xbox in delphi, convert to C++ source, and then use xdk. Just a bit of a concern, because its been in my interest to write some stuff for xbox.

I'd say use a wrapper (you know, converts the code for you), but with all of the XDK specific stuff, I'd say that's out of the question, unless someone wrote a wrapper that works with the XDK. I'm not a professional developer, however, so don't take my word for it.

visual basic wouldnt work, because they work only on windows for one... maybe a dll could be written in vb and then a c++ application would load the vb dll, but i doubt it. more hassle than its worth. delphi might work (if a directx sdk is available for it). i'd say try running xbox linux and writing a small program in delphi (such as hello world) and running it.

just my ideas on the subject smile.gif

Don't you have a doctorate in computer science?  I think if you did, you would understand the underlying problems presented with asking why delphi and visual basic can/cannot run on the xbox......

It wouldnt help as everything you use delphi and visual for are not possible on the xbox. There are no windows tags like pulldown menues and directory list boxes ect... it was not designed to have users write dashboards and view files on hard drive. You have to write everything you want to display, buttons and edits are useless as all you have is a game pad.

I too write code for delphi 6 and 7 and love the way it works but its just not possible. I am however working on learning c++ to code for xbox but It looks like delphi has spoiled me bad and I would have been better off learning c++ from start. I am having problems with the setup and building(compiling) the programes, its so easy in delphi but c++ compiler is alot different.

Good luck if you decide to learn c++ as I am.
