Elf Files

can someone explain elf files to me? i first saw them in psx developement, and figured they're the psx executable file. then i saw them in ps2, so im like, well maybe sony kept them as the format of choice, but then i saw them with gba and now gamecube developement, so im assuming its a sort of universal bianary/executable file format used in *nix (aka open source) systems. if someone can explain more or provide a link or three, i would really appreciate it. thanks.

razorrifh,

Check the 'ELF headers' link (download zip) for some information.

Hope it sheds some light.

HISTORY
The ELF header files made their appearance in FreeBSD 2.2.6.  ELF in
itself first appeared in AT&T System V UNIX.  The ELF format is an
    adopted standard.
