Patching Xbe For New Games
« Reply #1 on: March 30, 2003, 10:38:00 AM »

I'm not very familiar with this stuff.  I paid a guy to mod my box for me and i'm sure it's prob easy to update but I would have to have him do it for me and he wants $100 to do it. So I was just kind of hoping to get these patches to work...

If all the new games are going to be like this... and I can't get them to work... I'll be extremely sad. So if anyone can help me out, please.  Maybe a different patcher or something I could try?

Soodle,

there is no way you can do it wrong, by using the XBEMIDP patcher.

You must have either the ISO or the XBE/XBE's that you want to patch. Fire up XBEMIDP, click the '...' button, choose XBE and patch it.

If you want to patch the ISO, just click next at the first screen (XBE patching), click the '...' button, choose the ISO to patch and go. You might want to uncheck the 'create backup file' when patching an ISO.

This will patch *all* occurences of the media ID check, if it still won't work for you, you might have another problem.

I used XBEMIDP.  I patched the default.xbe file... put it back into the game... my buddy told me to rename it (take out the .bat at the end)... and he said to rename the original default file to something different. Does all this sound right? Is there anything else I need to do?

Sorry if I sound dumb... I am a true newbie!  tongue.gif

I'm having problems with "The Sims" also.
I was able to successfully patch Rollercoaster Tycoon, but I'm having absolutely no luck with the 2 patch programs I'm using for the Sims.  I don't know what I'm doing wrong, as apparently few others are having the level of difficulty that I am.

Don't use xbpatch2.bat.  That's some lame batch file I threw together in a hurry.  ADR's patcher is very good, or you could also try L!M!T's or Copyhaunters' patches.  You can't go wrong with any of them, to be honest.

And you all have the removed the possibility of IGR being the culprit here by disabling the three IGR settings in evox.ini?

soodle,
Yes, that sounds OK. But use the XBEMIDP. If it finds the media ID inside the ISO or the XBE, it *will* patch it.

Do I have to change the IGR settings if I'm putting the game on DVD-r?
I thought IGR being a problem was only a possibility if I was putting the game on the hard drive.

Someone explain this smile.gif

Matrix
Xbox 1.0
Xecuter2 2976.02

Copied State of Emergency to my hard drive and experiencd the same problem
as has already been described. (with IGR set to Yes in all three places)

I tried patching the .xbe with all the patchers mentioned, to no success. XBEMIDP even reported no patch being applied at all, so I'm guessing the file didn't need to be patched and that wasn't the problem.

I disabled IGR in all three spots and the game works fine...

Here's what I don't get... After disabling IGR in the .ini file, it still worked though!
Would someone mind educating me about what disabling IGR in the .ini file means?

Can we also assume that the new wave of games has a problem with IGR rather than needing to be patched? Is this something that will be fixed in the future? Does it even really matter since IGR seems to work anyway? Am I just crazy? (don't answer that last one)

they need to be patched, the new bios removes the need for them to be patched though. also, ive have limited success with the patchers myself, copyhaunters works the best for me. igr patches memory at the software level (instead of the bios/kernal level (not sure which), like the x2 bios) this causes problems with some (if not most, hehe) games.

I appreciate the responses. I have tried used xbemidp, xeero and copyhaunter.  The only one I really understood and could patch with was xbemidp. But it said it was successfully patched so I'm assuming I did that much right. The fact that CGMneon got RCT to work really discourages me, as I have had no success with neither games.

I have tried disabling the IGRs but still no success. Could it be another problem? Or am I just too dumb to figure this out...?

try running the program with boxplorer, or some other tool. also, make sure you're using the right default.xbe (i got mine mixed up some times, from always copying it to the root dir on my hd)

Xeero,
Thanks for your help.  I got the Sims to work.  Burned it onto a CD-RW and it plays great.  Don't know what I was doing wrong with the DVD-R, but the copyhaunter's v2.0 patch did it for me.
Have now patched 4 new games total copyhaunter's patch.  I strongly recommend it.

Please excuse my ignorance in this but what is boxplorer? Like I said a few posts ago, I paid someone to mod my xbox for me and I don't know much at all about this. What are you guys talking about putting the games on dvd-r and stuff? Is there a way to download the games on the net and burn them to a cd? Is it easier that way? I just use toolbox to copy the game to my hdd.

When I tried to use copyhaunters patch, if i'm remembering correctly, it said to select the xbe to patch and i selected default.xbe, then it said to select program to patch it with or something like that and I didn't know what to put there.

I would like to just put the new bios or whatever on my box but I'm too scared i'll mess it up. And I really don't want to pay the dude $100 to do it for me. How hard is it to update? Do they have newer versions of evolutionx?
