QUOTE (kickassdude @ Mar 11 2003, 02:53 AM)
hi i just had an idea of how to get on live with with a modchip but i dont know anything about anything when it comes to programing or net code or whatever so im just throwing this out there as an idea and if its stupid or impossible or has been discussed before please just tell me and i'll shut up. biggrin.gif

what if you set up a computer in between your xbox and xblive so that it intercepts the signal and changes the singal of your bios to a signal of that of a standard bios and sends that to xblive so they think that youre using a standard bios and they wouldnt ban you and you could be on it with a chip

would this be possible?
if no, why not? (im just curious)

Hate to burst your bubble, but it isn't possible at all. Your BIOS isn't transmitted at all (nor is any signal of the BIOS), rather a request for a checksum from the XBox Live servers to match against their database of their known BIOSes (i.e., the stock BIOS) is sent to the servers. And messing with packets might be difficult if the servers also checksum the packets for tampering (and if I'm not mistaken, they do). Best bet right now (and one that looks like it works) is to just put a switch on your modchip and lock your drive(s).

In the future someday, we may be able to run the connection through a computer, change the evox bios checksum with a regular bios checksum. This could be possible if you have two boxes. You may be able to mask one box's evox bios with the other one's unmodded bios. I havn't put alot of thought into how this could spacificly work, but it seems reasonable.
