Fatx File Limitations
« on: January 16, 2003, 12:06:00 PM »

Alright, as of late i've been doing some video work and wanted to show it off via my xbox. I copied over the file (2.8gb) and it showed up as -1.8gb on my xbox.

Now I also have linux installed on my E drive, and it's file system is 2gb. Now this left me curious us theres a file size limitation for FATX? Is it 1 gb?  and if theres a work around (which the Ed's Linux clearly has).

More likely, you encountered a bug in the program you were using.

Where did you get the file size report from?

I suspect it was indeed 2.8GB, but the value for filesize was calculated with a "long" which is 31 bits and a sign. Anything over ~2GB in size would be be reported as a negative number.

I've seen ftp programs report the incorrect size, but such a bug can also live in the server side of things.

It was a report from flashfxp, it showed the file size correctly on my harddrive but not on the xbox.

So it probably has something to do with the evox ftpd.

Thanks =)

Should be simple to confirm if its FATX or the FTPD/FTP Client.

FTP the file BACK from the xbox to your pc.  If the size of both the files on the PC (obviouslly I assume you are intellegent enough not to overwrite the original on the PC) are the same then its the FTPD or possibly the ftp client you are using.  I would also check the file size on the xbox using xbox utils like ToolBox, boXplorer or other HD util.
