Xbepatch: Is It Safe To Run This Utility On
« on: January 12, 2003, 11:37:00 AM »

Was thinking one of you developers might now this... I use most of my apps off a dvd-rw boot disc. I usually don't run xbepatch on an xbe, unless I first burn the disc, and try it, and see the xbe fail to load. At that point I patch the xbe, and then re-burn the disc. Minor setback, 10 minutes, but gets annoying if I am in a hurry...

Would it be safe to just patch all my xbe's before putting them on the disc? (I could potentially be running xbepatch on an xbe that didn't need it...)

It should be fine running this on any application. All it does, AFAIK, is update a few flags and data areas to "retail" state. If it's already in "retail" state, it shouldn't have any net effect.

Thanks BenJeremy, that is what I was gathering, but just wanted to make sure. (How did I know you would be the one to reply, thanks!)

Reason: If I am having problems with an app, I didn't want to have "maybe I shouldn't have patched it" as a potential reason in the back of my mind...

I know this sounds like a no-brainer, but it was worth posting my final results for those who find this information useful...
