I was wondering if it is possible to stream a game on a pc down to the xbox like a movie.

I tried to do it with xbmp since it can start games off the hd and dvd drive but when I clicked on the file the screen flashed black and then just went back to xbmp. Has anyone else tried this?

It's not possible. Why? I have no idea, lol, but it just isn't.

don't know but it sure would be awesome to hook one up to a snap server and an 80 gigger.

Just for a test try and play Unreal Tournament 2003 from a networked drive on a 64meg ram 733Mhz pc, see how it plays.

Dont want any caching on you local hdd now.

FYI:  Streaming games over a 100mbit connection would be faster than loading from the DVD drive.

Depends on the speed of the dvd drive, for example the ps2 dvd drive, at the very edge will be getting around 55Mbps.
With 100Mbps ethernet, if you can sustain even 80Mbps, that's a great improvement over the speed the dvd drive offers.
Xbox drive is 2x-5x (Depending on location on cd most likely)
So 100Mbps would be more than sufficent for streaming.

Maybe if someone created a bios or program that could map network drives and make the xbox think it was a local partition. Then you could play games from a networked drive. Maybe...

So, is there a program that makes this possible.

If not, I hope it will be soon!!!

Most likely because games pull info in a non-linear formation. It is easy to do with movies sence they are continually playing and not skipping to point to point if that makes any sense. For example if you are streaming a movie and skip to a new part it takes awhile to buffer the information and then it plays. This is the only reason I would think you might have problems.

When using pc harddisk for storing .iso files onto and abuse Daemon-Tools to read disc content (.iso) and mount this drive to your xbox console would save a lot of hd space:)

I am working on some code that intercepts kernel calls from an XBE. Ultimately I hope it will become a framework for writting applications such as this.

Not only would mapping network drives be cool but also USB mass storage drives and ISO files on the hard drive.

Unfortunately my GF is very high maintenance and I cant spend as much time being a computer geek as I would like, so development is slow (Well that and the fact that I'm having trouble getting my hands on the DDK). If anybody else is interested in working on this please get in touch... [email protected]

Any further developments with this? One of the cool things about this is, if you had more than 1 xbox, you can stream games from a central "server"
