Xbox Boot 3 Times Then Starts Flashing Orange/red
« Reply #30 on: February 22, 2004, 12:35:00 PM »

I got the 3 time boot with orange flashing too.

I power it up then i blinks green/orange and powers off (i hear a peep noise).

then it powers on again green/orange and powers off bleep

powers on a 3rd time and stays on with red/green flashing.

When i turn it off now i can't turn it on again and only hear a very low click vioce of the PSU.

After a few minutes i can do the same shit again.

I know i screwed it myself since i tryed to solder mythe d0 of my executer 2.2 lite+ since it allways lost contact.

I get NO IMAGE on the tv AT ALL. Just plain black.

At least i know how i screwed it but  is there any hope to save my box or is it totally screwed?

Mustrom..

Green/Amber Flashing is usually indicative that you don't have your video cables plugged. In fact any xbox without av cables connected will flash Green/yellow.

Double check those first,

if it were me, I'd be more concerned with the red/green flashing, especially since your d0 is possibly messed up from what you hinted at.

I have seen this problem happen in two boxes with pogo pin chips.  I think its because they are getting old/too hot.

I used xbtools ver b2 to put my eeprom data on my bios chip.  I then get a message that I can't unlock it I get an error 06 by superfro.   So I think my problem is because of a bad HD.  I'm still waiting for a new HD image from a friend.  I think that the answer to the Xbox Boot 3 Times Then Starts Flashing Orange/red is not one problem it is an indicator that one of several things can be wrong with your xbox: bad trace, bad HD, bad video chip.  You need to check several things.  I think I will make a tutorial on the subject.

Don't forget some people doing ram modifications (mostly when they've connected to pins of the chips) are also experiancing a red/amber flashing (orange if u like)

Update: Now the xobox wont boot up at all anymore. Not even the 3 times with orange blinking and no signal.
I only hear a "click" voice from the PSU unit when i hit the power button.
Is there any way to fix the box or is it only electronics junk now?
Btw: no chip in anymore and original harddisk. The bios of the box is untouched original one. It SHOULD boot.

Mobo's for sale at http://www.llamma.com/xbox/

Update...

Well without doing anything major to my xbox is has began the red/yellow flashing again.

This time after every successful boot and subsequent power off, when I go to power the box back up again I get a Red flashing/Bad eeprom error.

Installing my matrix and loading the cromwell bios with added eeprom fix seems to solve the red flashing eeprom problem. After doing this I get a 3x red/yellow boot up and can go into the dash after the eject button is pressed.

Also of Note: all my HDTV setttings have been wiped out of xboxdash, I had to reset everything to pregressive scan.

I have a TSOP reflashed HYNIX-hyf29080.
I just added a Bios folder to the C: drive of my xbox(Bios=4981.06)

My Xbox is flashing orange/green it's been doing it for awhile so I reset it.
Now, it's still doing it and no picture on the screen whatsoever.  I can still FTP to it and the eject still works and the power button.  What can I do to fix this?

Thanks.

I installed a new HD and ran autoslayer 2.5.  My xbox would still boot 3 times I would hit the eject button and that would start the xbox OS.  I got to play a couple of games and then I put in a movie cd.  My xbox froze.  I rebooted my xbox and got the 3 boots I hit the eject button and nothing.  I use to get sound and a green dot on my TV but now I have nothing.  I tried flashing the chip but still nothing.  I'm going to test the power supply.  I thought I fixed it by replacing the HD.  But now I have new problems.

It sounds like the mcpx chip is dying...

You could glue a heatsink on it (this helped stabalize some of the 1.0 boards)

The other posibility that is often overlooked, is a dying power supply (not as likely) If a powersuplly isn't delivering a steady 3.3V, the box will frag...

Intermittent problems are the worst!
If you decide to get a new motherboard, I highly recomend buying a whole new xbox, then selling all the rest of the components seperatly, it is amazing, the sume of all the parts tend to add up to more than the original xbox cost... gota love ebay!

You can even sell the flakey board, it is worth about $15 on ebay...

I like to buy the M$ refurbs from places like gamestop. They work great, cost less, and are mostlikly not 1.6 yet... You can also buy used xboxes from the same places.

You can also look at the manufacture date and know what you are getting.

I'm having this problem on an UNMODDED box.  I took it apart to prep it for a modchip, but I'm still waiting on my chip.  I put it back together so I could play a few games... and when I turn it on:

1) Green light, fan on, sounds like DVD tries to close the door (the door's already closed, though)
2) Nothing.
3) Green light, fan on, sounds like the DVD tries to close the door (again, door's already closed).
4) Nothing.
5) Green light, fan on, sounds like DVD tries to close the door (still closed).
6) Flashing red and orange (FRAO doesn't sound as good as FRAG, eh?), fan on, nothing on screen, no sound.  I can open/close my DVD drive, but ... still doesn't do anything.

Any ideas?  Keep in mind, unmodded, not flashed (v1.6).

Ugh.
