It doesn't necessarily mean that you've done anything illegal...
I'd include it.

BenJeremy, youre too right about wanting to be producer... Coding is too long and tedious for my liking, "hello world" is enough for me.

Well, I don't mind coding at all... but the game industry pays crap for that specialty.

I'm kind of a "hands on" software engineer... I design and code (those really are two different hats) - even if you can't tell by the code in MXM  laugh.gif

A lot of times, you just can't get a feel for how something should be put together until you have it halfway built, so I do a lot of prototyping of classes and often reshuffle afterwards.

As a producer, I'd have enough control to set down realistic and specific requirements. I personally wouldn't let a publisher push me around by changing the scope of a project (I've seen that enough in my own side of SE). Deliverables are important, and the trick is to get both sides (software team and management) to understand that and buy into the philosophy 100%. From what I gather at fatbabies.com, management has quite a few issues with delivering good product in a timely fashion (Duke Nukem Forever... come on, people!!).

All-in-all, the games industry is in a bit of a shambles. My own "crew" is hoping to create a game or two and we might release demos to the public via the "underground" to stir interest, and offer the full thing to a real publisher. That might be the best model for us, because we don't have to quit our day job, we can deliver a complete product to a publisher, and everybody wins.

I enjoy coding, I just hate learning to code.

I don't think it would be a negative to have the experience  listed on your resume.

Personally, though, game coders make crap pay for long hours. The results are fulfilling, but the job to get is Producer. I'd consider relocating as a producer, and use my experience writing Xbox software to get the job; why not? It's quite an accomplishment to do the same job it might take ten people and a direct support line to M$ in shorter time to get a small game to "market"
