Load Bios From Hard Drive
« on: November 26, 2002, 08:41:00 AM »

what have u been smoking ?

the xbox kernel is in ram becuase thats usuakky where the o.s. is at..

swaping the kernel at run time has been discussed and is still possible, but you have to deal with the init data sections that sit on the flash.. the kernel loads it directly from there when it needs to "reset" itself..

QUOTE (Nailed @ Nov 26 2002, 01:35 PM)
In other posts, I've read mentions of an eventual BIOS would could load part of itself and/or replace itself from the harddrive.  Also, I think I remember someone mentioning that the XBox BIOS caches itself in RAM and runs from the cache.   Therefore, what about an application that loads a BIOS image from the harddrive?  Could it be done?

There's a discussion of this over at xboxhacker.net  - you would probably have to start by loading a new hacked 2bl which would then load the new hacked bios (which is the main kernel and requires startup params from 2bl).
