Alpha 0.5
* Phew. Bug fix. Sorry about that, people, but there was a big bug causing
instability in the system. It's very difficult to debug an app wthout a
debug console. Many problems solved now.
* SKINS! SKINS! SKINS! SKINS! This is the first release supporting
self-contained skins! "DefaultSkin" is included with the release,
basically the same images and sounds as in the previous releases, now
in a handly subdirectory with their own ini file.

As usual, look for it on usenet or anywhere else such programs are found (I can't direct you directly to any place, due to the nature of these files)

smile.gif WMA files tend to make downloads a bit bigger, but well worth it.

smile.gif, BJ I've downloaded and tried your new menu .05 . I can't get the Menus (Skins) to load correctly. I've used the same settings in the previous version . I also downloaded and tested the unmodified, unchanged version.; still no go.  Why is this so difficult? the previous ver. is ezr ..My only gripe about that on is the menu item limitation.  Now with this 1 i can go beyond the limitation but where & how do u load the F$#% Skins? Not mad at u; just venting.  None of my previous setting work anymore. Did u test b4 realease ? Help me out here.

Yes, I tested it, both with single skins and with two skins.

The idea is that you have the directory where MXM sits, say, F:\GAMES\MXM and the skin directory is one level below, F:\GAMES\MXM\LCARS, that file hjust has the contents of the skin dumped into it, with perhaps one other directory below it, for music (F:\GAMES\MXM\MUSIC)

Don't forget the Media directory, which still needs to be there yet.

It's quite simple.

<MXM>\MXM.ini
<MXM>\MXM.xbe
<MXM>\Media\Font16.xpr
<MXM>\DefaultSkin\MXM_Skin.ini
 :       :       :       :
<MXM>\DefaultSkin\MUSIC\SomeTune.wma

and so forth...

It's basically a replacement for Complex MenuX, used for DVD-R multi-game discs, but works well on hard drives, as well. Some people have replaced Evo-X with this, but that wasn't my intention... there does seem to be a few good reasons for doing this, though.

As for installation, I'm working on it. The skins should remove a lot of the complexity, and next on the plate is auto-configuration and chainable execution (launches itself from a single directory, but uses multiple ini files)

Unfortunately, I put up the latest version (0.6) and just found a bug when my DVD-R test finished. Basically, the 0.6 version doesn't like DVD-R drives for the skins.

It doesn't make it unusable, just the skin feature.

Here's the text of my message over at xboxhacker.net:

Yeah.... looks like I'll have to get a quick fix out.

My skins logic doesn't like the directory entries on a DVD-R, since they are read-only.

I'm test-burning tonight, and will get the fix out when I verify it works on DVD-R. I'm very sorry, folks.

Ok so it is possible to replace the evolutionx dashboard with this one then, now since im such a moron could you tell me how i would go about removing evolutionx off my harddrive and replacing it with your fine program?.....please dumb it down too cause.....well im fried ok. wink.gif

Well, I wouldn't *remove* Evo-X (I use it as my primary dash), I'll think about the tutorial... perhaps somebody out there who has done it can work something up.

I plan on adding passwords and parental control capability, too, so people can lock out others (like roommates or siblings) from accessing some programs.
