Sounds like a good feature for boXplorer.

It's a shame that T'ulkas (the author) seems nowhere to be found. sad.gif

Probly got pissed so many people were saying BoXPlorer Sucked.

I'm really puzzled how this would be worth the time to develop.  Just do it on the PC and then transfer it over.   If you are really short on space, use some program like WebDrive to extract straight to the XBox harddrive.  XDFSExtract has been the best extraction program I've used yet.

What is keeping people from developing into the Evox dashboard a way to just mount the ISO / xISO file and just using that rather than it needing to be extracted.

There are tools for the PC that will allow you to mount an ISO as a drive.  We should research a method of porting something like that into the evox / nexgen dash.

That way when you go to launch a game, it mounts the ISO as the m drive or something along that line...

I currently have no problem x'fering files across my network, but i truely think that this ould be a major improvment.  If my coding skills were better I would take a swing at it...

First, is it possible to code this, heck XP and ME allows for compressed *.zip files to be opened like a folder, ISO's are not much different.

Second...is there a demand for this, i personally like storing a single file on my computer, it makes sharing much easier...

The fact that Evox is no longer running when you start another program, maybe?

If you are really short on space, use some program like WebDrive to extract straight to the XBox harddrive.

Unfortunately, the performance of that solution *sucks*. Webdrive operates by writing the whole file to the local disk, then ftping that to the remote system. It ends up doing 3-4 times the I/O that it has to. When you're dealing with multiple gigabytes, that becomes a problem.

What would be REALLY nice for Evox, would be to run an SMB or NFS server in addition to the FTP server. These protocols support block access to files, so that any applications can write to a file right across the network. I imagine it's a lot more work to implement than FTP though.

I think a way of mounting iso files (a la daemontools for the pc) would be really useful. Is there no way to get the xbox to create a virtual drive to mount an image?
